Story Overview:

He lost his mentor.
He lost his K9 partner.
He almost lost his will to live.
But when a ruthless killer targets a woman on the run, Theo and his new K9 companion will do whatever it takes to survive—and save the woman neither can live without.

Grieving the death of his partner, Theo Bosco has no room in his life for distractions. Though his instincts scream that he should avoid Juliet 'Jules' Jackson, he can't seem to stay away. It doesn't help that Theo's new K9 companion has fallen head over paws with Jules's rambunctious family.

Or that when he's with her, Theo finally knows peace.

When Jules rescued her siblings, whisking them away to the safety of the beautifully rugged Colorado Rockies, she never expected to catch the eye—or the heart—of a cop. Yet as Jules struggles to fight her growing attraction to the brooding K9 officer, another threat lurks much closer to home...

And this time, there's no escape.

My Review:
Wow, wow, wow. I've really enjoyed most of the Katie Ruggle books that I've read, but this one was utterly fantastic. The hero and his K9 are in mourning and it's so painful to read. Those early scenes between Theo and Viggy utterly broke my heart. Katie Ruggle put some amazing depth of emotion into this book.

And that's before we even get to Jules' story which is equally heartbreaking...and honestly, I don't really want to say too much more about it, simply because the full depth of what she and her four siblings have gone through is revealed piece by piece through the story. I don't want to take any of that revelation away from you.

Just know there is a ton of suspense and intense action throughout this entire book. This book doesn't have the feel of a normal romantic suspense story in that there isn't a danger threatening throughout the story, but that's why each time something happened it was so shocking. With every turn of the page, there was no telling what might happen. The story surprised me over and over again...including with the way the author finished the story. It was unexpected, but I respected the choices made there.

This was an absolutely fantastic read. I truly loved it. I think I have an new favorite in romantic suspense series. I cannot wait for book #2 in this series!!

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
