Story Overview:
Sometimes home is the refuge you need-and sometimes it isn't.  Adelaide Davies, who's been living in Sacramento, returns to Whiskey Creek, the place she once called home. She's there to take care of her aging grandmother and to help with Gran's restaurant, Just Like Mom's. But Adelaide isn't happy to be back. There are too many people here she'd rather avoid, people who were involved in that terrible June night fifteen years ago.

Ever since the graduation party that changed her life, she's wanted to go to the police and make sure the boys responsible-men now-are punished. But she can't, not without revealing an even darker secret. So it's better to pretend....

Noah Rackham, popular, attractive, successful, is shocked when Adelaide won't have anything to do with him. He has no idea that his very presence reminds her of something she'd rather forget. He only knows that he's finally met a woman he could love.

My Review:
LOVED this book and this story. Wow, talk about some secret history...Addy has some. A gang rape when she was 16 yo was instigated by Noah's twin brother. A twin brother who she accidentally trying to get away from him in a deserted mine. Noah was always the one she had a crush on, and fifteen years later that pull to him hasn't changed, but she knows that information would be too much for any man to handle. As a result, she pushes him away over and over again when she comes back to this small town but he's not taking no for an answer.

Noah has always been a bit of a man-whore. Honestly, there's just never been a girl who he's been drawn to enough to develop into anything more. All that begins to change when Addy tells him "no"...that's not something that he knows  how to deal with...women never tell him no. In fact, she acts like he's done something to her to make her hate him and he's completely perplexed.

Addy is just trying to survive being back in this small town. She has NO DESIRE to revisit that horrible, awful night, but it was a gang rape and 4 out of the 5 men who perpetrated the attack are still alive and have a lot to lose if the incident comes out. Someone is threatening her and her grandmother who she's come back to help.

In the midst of all this drama is Baxter and his sexuality/attraction issues. He's gay, fully in the closet, and completely in love with his best friend Noah. He's tired of hiding it and things there definitely come to a head in this book. Please, please, please Brenda Novak....please let us see Bax find his HEA in a book sometime soon. My heart hurts for him. I just love his character although I was shocked about where that story line went in this book. *hurts*

As with all these books, there's a lot to this story. Because of the nature of this particular story, there didnt' seem to be as much interaction within this core group of friends like there has been in the other books. There simply wasn't room for it with the story line with Addy and the diner and the men from the attack to fit it all in. I'll admit I missed getting to see as much of the friends, but the other story lines were so good. I can't fault the author's choice on that.

It's been fun to be able to read these books back to back, but now I'm more in the series are out from now until October. *sigh* BUT I am VERY excited about the blurb for that's gonna be another good one.
