Story Overview

A group of former Navy SEALS, the Alpha Pack is a top-secret team of wolf shifters with Psy powers combating the greatest dangers in the world. But sometimes those dangers are more intimate than they bargained for…
Ever since he saved Dr. Mackenzie Grant’s life, panther shifter and sorcerer Kalen Black has had trouble keeping the beautiful doctor out of his thoughts, and his heart. The brush with death awakened an intense passion between them—one that for the first time had the notorious loner letting down his guard.

With the Alpha Pack battling an evil Fae who is slowly gaining control over Kalen’s mind, Kalen can no longer trust his own actions, and he breaks off his affair with Mackenzie in order to keep her safe. But when Mackenzie learns that she is carrying Kalen’s child, no amount of danger will keep her away from the man she loves. To protect his mate and unborn child, Kalen will have to battle a terrible evil, unleash the full fury of his power, and risk destroying them all…

My Review:

This book wasn't my favorite of this series and I really had high hopes for it especially after the novella where Kalen and Mac hooked up. I loved that novella. But the book went much more into the internal issues that Kalen is having with the dark hold that Malek has developed over him.

I had a hard time getting Kalen set in my mind as an Alpha because he spends so much of this book struggling against that evil. It almost made him feel weak. That combined with the fact that Nick is constantly referring to him as a kid and I just couldn't fall in love with him like I normally do the heroes. This also affected my enjoyment of the romance between him and Mac. BUT even though the romance wasn't my favorite, I did still enjoy reading this book. It added a whole new slew of layers to this team and Kalen and Sariel to find out all the details and twists that developed in this story.

I do continue to love the set up of this series with the Alpha Pack. I look forward to Ryon's story coming in December. It's a great cross between military and paranormal and with creatures like Kalen, who's not only a shifter, but also a sorcerer. It provides for some new twists on the paranormal and I like the series.
