He's Gone Rogue

Ex-Navy SEAL Rock Babineaux’s job is to get information, and he’s one of the best in the business. Until something goes horribly wrong and he’s being hunted by his own government. Even his best friends at the covert special-ops organization Black Knights Inc. aren’t sure they can trust him. He thinks he can outrun them all, but his former partner—a curvy bombshell who knows just how to drive him wild—refuses to cut him loose.

She Won't Back Down

Vanessa Cordova hasn’t been the team’s communication specialist
very long, but she knows how to read people—no way is Rock guilty of murder. And she’ll go to hell and back to help him prove it. Sure, the sexy Cajun has his secrets, but there’s no one in the world she’d rather have by her side in a tight spot. Which is good, because they’re about to get very tight…

My Review:

I adore this series. Without doubt, it was my favorite new series last year so I was so excited about book #4 coming out. It did not let me down.

The book starts with Rock, who's supposedly gone rogue, in a jungle location being stalked. He knows the CIA has put out a hit on him so he's truly running for his life. What he doesn't realize is that his stalker is none other than Vanessa, a comm specialist with The Black Knights...the undercover motorcycle crew who work Black contract projects for the government. She's always had a crush on him and while he would love to tap that...he won't hurt her that way. He's not a guy built for a long-term relationship anymore.

Well things get a bit crazy and the two of them end up running for their lives through the jungle...ala Romancing the Stone. I LOVED this part of the book...seriously so freaking good...adventure, close space, lots of really intimate moments between the two. It was just really good.

And I ADORE Vanessa's character. Her mental monologue literally kept me giggling throughout the ENTIRE book. Seriously, Julie Ann Walker did an amazing job of getting Vanessa's thoughts down on the page and they were so true. You know, those moments where your looking at a sexy guy and realize how dumb you look standing there stupefied. You get to ride along with Vanessa in her mental ramblings and insecurities. The book was worth reading for that aspect alone. She lusts after this guy and her brain just turns to mush and she realizes all along that her brain is mush. The constant self-pep-talks were funny!

Then there is the suspense story line...why does the CIA think Rock's gone rogue? Rock is an interrogator. That's his specialty...he can pick up on those little psychological clues about when someone is lying or stretching the truth and he's been doing that DEEP undercover for the CIA on his off-time from the Black Knights. Something has gone wrong with that mission and he KNOWS it's just a matter of time before he's dead. He refuses to take the Knights or Vanessa down with him. He's in such a bad filled him and the story with angst that made it so good. Literally at the end of the story, I was crying. So good!

This was definitely another great installment to the series. LOVE these Black Knights!!
