Story Overview:

For Detroit handyman Derrick Chance and his lover, Gavin Hayes, the holiday season is filled with the promise of new beginnings. Gavin’s officially moving in, and after the New Year, they’ll begin house hunting. But they both know all the talk of gift exchange, whose holiday ornaments go where, and what repairs and remodels will be needed to put Derrick’s house on the market is only a smoke screen.

Before the month is over, Gavin will have the final verdict on whether or not his dangerously delusional ex, Lukas, infected him with HIV. No matter how good Gavin’s chances appear with the three-month hurdle already passed, neither he nor Derrick knows what the future holds for them.

The holidays have always been a time of loss and mourning for Derrick, but now he has to stay strong as Gavin’s own fears and doubts assail him relentlessly. And when Lukas returns, unexpectedly penitent amid troubling revelations, Gavin has to ask himself whether he can offer Derrick the future he deserves, or whether these first few months of happiness are the best they will ever get.

My Review:
I'm pretty sure this is the final installment of the romance between Gavin and Derrick. We've watched them develop as a couple in these three books, but this one probably has the biggest test for them as Gavin's past with a boyfriend comes back to haunt them. In this book, Gavin is waiting for his final HIV test to come back. Complicating the wait is the ex, who just won't let go and knows how to manipulate Gavin emotionally.

This book is told entirely from  Gavin's POV and he's having a rough time of it. Derrick continues to tell him that no matter what the test results say, they are good, but Gavin has a hard time trusting that.

I  have to admit, I've enjoyed this entire series. Derrick is the big blue-collar type. He doesn't have much experience dating (try none), but he has a great intuition with what people need and he really sees Gavin. I love how he knows and understands Gavin's needs. Gavin is the more polished, suited gay guy. He's smaller, but typically is in charge of the reins so to speak in his relationships. He's normally a really self-confident guy, but his last relationship changed everything in that. Both these guys have moments where they like to have COMPLETE control in the bedroom and that yields some pretty sexy results.

The books have been good. This final one rated just a tiny bit lower than the other two, but that's mainly because it's dealing with real-life issues that aren't so entertaining (and I base my ratings on my entertainment value). But Amelia handled this story line gorgeously showing the difficulties faced by so many gay men....and not just through the HIV story line. She also had an ongoing story with Derrick and the problems he faced with his hockey league when he came out.

I highly recommend this series. It follows one gay couples relationship, so they really need to all be read in order, although I think any of them could stand alone. The story is enriched though by reading all of them together.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
