Story Overview:
On the Road: Sometimes, the shy quiet type, really aren’t shy or quiet at all.

Payson thought he’d found his mate once, but had been wrong. With his senses screwed up by scientist’s experiments, he no longer trusts them. He sleeps with any nice smelling, willing male—and some females—hoping his hyena will want to keep one of them. He’s shocked and delighted when he and his animal are in agreement over one sexy, nerdy human—Land Zimmerman. The sex is fantastic, Land’s shy virgin playfulness even better, and Payson gives in to his hyena’s urge to mark Land. The next morning, things heat up, and not in a good way. Payson’s jealous hyena attacks a fellow pack-member standing a little too close to Land. Can Payson convince his skittish human that he’s not as crazy as he seems?

My Review:
This book is number 9 in this series, so I wasn't really sure about picking it up, but I found I just couldn't resist that story description. Thankfully I found that this book stands easily on its own.

Land is out celebrating his 21st birthday with his sister. He's finally come out of the closet to her and also admitted that he's still a virgin. She's determined that he needs to fix that. The problem is...Land is really shy and geeky, a complete introvert. He's headed to the bar when a biker dude (completely friendly, no worries there) brushes up against him by accident. Well, it turns out that biker dude is part of this group of shifters that makes up Konta's menagerie and immediately when he returns to the group, his roommate, Payson, realizes that he's brushed up against his mate.

Payson is the complete opposite of Land. He's extremely secure in himself, outgoing, a little hyper (hello, hyena), and completely into Land. I liked how much he really was determined to make this all good for Land and not force him into the mating that Payson wants so badly.

This was a short little book, but it worked for me. It was incredibly hot and sexy. And with the shifter world the way it is, I could accept the insta-love story line. I liked that Land was completely out of his element, but that he trusted Payson in this. Overall, it was really truly a fun read. I need to check out the rest in the series. BTW, this is truly a menagerie...the shifters run anywhere from bears and tigers to penguins. It's a bit bizarre, but I like that it's different. ;)

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
