Story Overview:

Gavin Hayes is everything Derrick could ask for in a lover. Gorgeous. Passionate. Great in bed. Derrick finds it very easy to just let himself go, to let Gavin guide him and teach him all the things he missed during a decade of celibacy. In the course of a single weekend, Derrick’s routine is transformed, his mornings and evenings filled with sex. Sweet, seductive, wild, or raunchy, Gavin offers Derrick all the pleasure he’s denied himself for so long.

But learning how to be a lover in bed is one thing. Learning to be one out of bed is another. For Derrick, being alone has become habit. Sharing his confidences doesn’t come nearly as readily as sharing his bed. After so many losses, the last thing Derrick wants is to become dependent upon another person who might not always be there.

And Gavin always being there is far from certain. With an ex-lover lurking in the background, and the question of Gavin’s future health still outstanding, neither Gavin nor Derrick feel capable of asking for anything more than right now. But Gavin won’t be kept on the fringes of Derrick’s life. Can Derrick let someone in before the opportunity passes him by?

My Review:
I really enjoyed the first installment of this series, but I enjoyed this one even more. In this book, you get to see Gavin and Derrick more settled as a couple. Things are still new and they are trying to find their way around each other, but there isn't a question of their involvement anymore...just how serious it's going to become and how quickly.

This is definitely more the "honeymoon" phase of their relationship...lots of very hot sex, while trying to negotiate the in's and out's of being involved. But for both of them, the specter of Gavin's questionable health hangs heavily over them. As they go through Halloween and Thanksgiving, they are both just waiting for December when his final tests come back. But all is not happy and rosy. Derrick's never truly done the whole relationship thing and doesn't know how to be a partner and work as equals. For Gavin, he just came out of an abusive, overbearing relationship. He's not willing to accept another one where they aren't equal partners, but Derrick is having issues disclosing things that affect both of them.

There was a lot of self-realization for both characters in this story. They both carry scars from past relationships which definitely affect how they deal with each other and not always in a good way. You get to travel with them as they begin to see this and figure out how to adjust to a life together. I liked watching them grow and develop this way. I really like both these characters. I adore Derrick in the first book, but wasn't so sure about Gavin in that one. Now I am completely sold on Gavin. He definitely came into his own in this book. He knows that he loves and wants Derrick, but has developed enough self-confidence to love himself more. He isn't going to give in on what he knows he deserves from this relationship and I LOVED that about him. In the first book, Derrick was my favorite. In this one, Gavin was my favorite. I love it when an author can weave her characters around like that to shift your perspective of them.

From what I understand, there are three installments to this story. The test results are still not in and I honestly have no idea where the author is going to take that story line. I like where these two are at though and I only foresee good things for them, regardless. Now we need March (when book #3 releases) to get here soon because I am ready to read it...NOW!

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
