Story Overview:
Lending a sympathetic ear and dispensing sage words of advice is all part of the job for psychologist Pilar Alvarez, and she’s everything a good therapist should be: warm, compassionate, supportive. She listens, she cares, and she has all the answers, but how’s the woman everyone turns to in their hour of need supposed to cope when her own life starts to fall apart?

While working hard to make a success of her recently-opened practice in trendy South Beach, Pilar must also find time to cater to the demands of her boisterous Cuban family, which includes younger sister Izzy, an unemployed, navel-pierced wild child who can't stay out of trouble, and their mother, a beauty queen turned drama queen who’s equally obsessed with her fading looks and getting Pilar married before it’s “too late.” Although she’d like to oblige her mother and make a permanent love connection, Pilar’s romantic prospects look grim. Her cheating ex, who swears that he’s reformed, is stalking her. A hunky, but strictly off-limits, patient with bad-boy appeal and intimacy issues is making passes. And the sexy shrink in the suite across the hall has a gold band on his left ring finger.

When a series of personal and professional disasters lead Pilar into the arms of one of her unsuitable suitors, she's left shaken, confused, and full of self-doubt. With time running out, she must make sense of her feelings and learn to trust herself again so that she can save her business, her family, and most importantly, her heart.

My Review:
I've been following Tracie for a while on Twitter, so when she approached me to review this book, I jumped at the opportunity. It sounded fun and I like to support indie authors when I have time. I'll be honest with you. I underestimated how much fun and just how entertaining this book was going to be. This book is perfect as a summer read.

The book follows Dr. Pilar Alvarez throughout her new psychotherapy practice and through her admittedly crazy family life. I'm not sure where there were more her practice or family.

Pilar is Latino and lives in South Beach. The thing that makes Pilar a great therapist, makes her life really tough. She's a nice person, always willing to give people the benefit of the doubt. She understands what makes people tick and why they do certain things which makes her an extremely empathetic soul. It also means that others don't think too hard about taking advantage of her. From her obsessive ex, who didn't become that way until she made him an ex to the good-looking man-whore Mitch, who's her patient. Her life is filled with the "wrong" guys. Even her new friend and colleague, Ford, the new psychiatrist who moved in across the hall is wrong in that he's married.

Add to that, she's living with her 23 yo wild-child sister, is on the verge of her 30th birthday with a mother who's sure she's about to become a spinster, is close to losing her practice as she's hanging by a financial thread....and things are a little stressful in her life.

The book is told entirely in 1st person from Pilar's POV and it's so funny. You get to see into her sessions with some of her more "entertaining" patients. You also see way more of her family than Pilar would really like. It's simply a fun book to read. I liked Pilar. She's just a nice person who gets screwed way more than she should, so it was fun to read how everything works out for her in the end. From one page to another, I wasn't sure how that was going to happen, but I like how it finally did.  I liked it!

I received a complementary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

loved the book and gave it 5 stars. Great review and I loved the comment, difficult where there were more nuts, at Pilar's practice or in her family! If you haven't read this yet, you don't know what you're missing! Sooz
