Story Overview:
Defense attorney Brynn Holloran is right at home among cops, criminals, and tough-as-nails prosecutors. With her sharp wit and pointed words, she has a tendency to intimidate, and she likes it that way. She’s a force to be reckoned with in the courtroom, but in her personal life, she’s a mess.

When a vicious murderer she once helped prosecute resurfaces and starts a killing spree to wipeout those who put him behind bars, one thing becomes clear: Brynn needs to run for her life.

With no help from the police, Brynn is forced to take matters into her own hands, turning to a private security firm for protection. But when Brynn defies advice and gets involved in the investigation, even the former Secret Service agent assigned to protect her may not be able to keep her safe. With every new clue she discovers, Brynn is pulled back into the vortex of a disturbing case from her past.

As the clock ticks down on a manhunt, Brynn’s desperate search for the truth unearths long-buried secrets and reignites a killer’s fury.
My Review:
Ooh, I liked this book...a lot! There was a ton of expectation and suspense woven throughout the book. There's never any doubt at who was the bad guy, but Laura Griffin still did an amazing job filling the story with twists and turns and unexpected revelations. I loved that!

But before we talk about the suspense, let's talk about the characters. Brynn is a defense attorney now, but once upon a time she was a prosecuting attorney who sent a serial killer to prison. He's escaped and systematically killing all those responsible for his incarceration. As a result, Brynn's boss has hired her a set of bodyguards. Erik is in charge of her team.

Erik is a former marine and secret service agent. Now, he works as a private contractor and bodyguard...something that he prides himself on...just how good he is at his job. But this job with Brynn has thrown him for a loop. For the first time ever, he's personally attracted and drawn to his charge. He can't allow that to happen. As a bodyguard, he must stay completely focused. That won't happen if he's distracted by his attraction.

The relationship definitely feels a bit secondary to everything else happening in this story...just because there is a ton of other story lines happening in the story, not because the romance is any less. I have to admit my favorite story line was probably the one that played the mildest thread in all the stories...the current trial Brynn is defending on...my heart hurt for that boy.

This book was just one that was a true joy to read. I kept second guessing everything happening and loved the romance, too. The characters were both fantastic. I loved both Brynn and Erik.

If you enjoy romantic suspense, you're going to like this one. I can definitely recommend it!

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest and voluntary review.
