Story Overview:
College junior Lucy Washington abides by one rule-avoid risk at all costs. She's cautious in every aspect of her life, from her health, to her mock trial team, to the boring guys she dates. When a brash, gorgeous jock walks into the campus coffee shop and turns his flirt on, Lucy is stunned by the force of attraction. For the first time ever, she's willing to step out of her comfort zone, but can she really trust the guy who's determined to sweep her off her feet? Entering his last year of college eligibility, linebacker Matthew "Matty" Iverson has the team captaincy in his sights. And it's his for the taking, if he can convince his quarterback Ace Anderson to give up the starting position. Luckily, Matty already has an edge-the hottie he's lusting over just happens to be Ace's childhood best friend. Getting Lucy on his side and in his bed? Hell yeah. Matty is more than confident that he can have both, but when he falls hard for Lucy, it's time for a new game plan: convince the woman of his dreams that she's not sleeping with the enemy.Contains mature themes.

My Review:
Overall: 4.0
Performance: 4.25
Story: 4.0

This was a really fun read. While it wasn't quite as engaging as the first book in the series, I  still thoroughly enjoyed it.

Matty is the unapologetic manwhore. He's offered a lot by being part of the football team and he's taken advantage of that over the years. But lately, he's been calming down a bit. Then his coach comes to him with a deal. The coach wants Ace, the quarterback, out of his job so he can hand that over to an incoming recruit. He offers Matty the Captaincy for the team if he smooths this transition over for the team and for Ace. Yeah, the coach is totally making Matty the bad guy here.

Matty hates the idea of this job, but what he doesn't realize is that Ace's best friend is Lucy, the girl he's suddenly interested in. It will be hard to impress the girl he likes if he makes her best friend his worst enemy.

There's a really interesting dynamic to this story and I found myself even more caught up with what was happening with all the side-characters...Ace, Hammer.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. I'm just really bummed that the next two books aren't available in audio. But that's okay, I've already bought the ebooks, so I will find time to read them soon.

Publisher: Avon

Sexual Intensity: hot

Story Overview:
A Montana Man risks everything for the woman he loves . . .
Undercover DEA Special Agent Dawson King spent five months in a Montana prison establishing a fake identity to take down a ruthless drug dealer and put him behind bars. Except there’s a wild card . . . the killer’s beloved daughter. Cara Potter may appear to be on the right side of the law, but King has learned the hard way to trust no one—even someone as tantalizing as the coffee shop owner. She’s irresistible . . . but is she also dangerous?
From the moment he enters her life, King makes Cara . . . nervous. The handsome drifter says he wants to get his life together . . . but there is something about him that doesn’t quite ring true. Cara wants to believe in him, yet she holds back despite the way he awakens dormant dreams and leaves her breathless with his sexy smile, steamy kisses, his every touch.
When the explosive truth comes out and she’s betrayed by the ones she loves, Cara must decide—can she trust her heart, or should she listen to her head?
My Review:
Okay, I'm not sure how this happened because I know that I have a ton of Jennifer Ryan books in my TBR pile, but this is the first time I've actually read one of her books. And it should also be noted that I was only about 25% into this book when I got online and ordered the first book in the series...because I NEED to read Trigger and Ashley's sounds amazing.

But this review is about this book...which was pretty darn good, too. King has just gotten out of prison...after a 150+ day stint to set him up for his undercover DEA operation. You see, he's trying to get close to Cara who is the daughter of a criminal drug-running mastermind. On the surface, Cara has an honest business, but she hires down on their luck ex-cons...and gives them the opportunity for a fresh start.

Regardless of what the DEA thinks, Cara is innocent and hates her father for the chaos his life has brought to hers. She's doing what she can to make up for his offering ex-cons a way to start over. So many times, ex-cons don't have good choices they can make.

But as much as Cara wants her father to stay away, he doesn't follow her wishes and continues to show up which continues to drag Cara and her business into his business...which isn't good.

I enjoyed this book. I had no idea how it was going to all play out and was shocked when the climax started happening so early, but that meant that there was a great closure to the story that I did really enjoy...even if it did drag on for a tiny bit too long.

It may have been my first Jennifer Ryan read, but it definitely won't be my last. It was a completely engaging story and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

NOTE: The best line in this entire book happens way early when King is talking to Ashley...'he'll be in and out she won't even notice' (that's a summary), but two days later, I STILL crack up when I think about that scene. Needless to say, I loved the friendship between Trigger and King and am dying to go back and read Trigger's book now.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Long Shot by Kelly Jamieson

Title: Long Shot
Author: Kelly Jamieson
My Rating: A

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Series: Long Shot #3
Main Characters: Cade and Reece
Release Date: February 2018
Publisher: Loveswept
Links to Purchase
Sexual Intensity: hot

Story Overview:
A haunted beauty inspires a Navy SEAL turned playboy bar owner to change his ways in this tender and sensual novel from the bestselling author of Hot Shot and the Heller Brothers series.
Waitressing at a tequila bar on the beach in sunny San Diego may not be what Reece Kirkwell wants to do forever, but for now it’s perfect—other than the flashbacks to the tragedy she caused in Boston. And the fact that one of her bosses is a domineering, first-class manwhore who’s as stubborn as he is sexy. If he’d just listen to her, she could double his business. But it would also mean getting close to someone, and that’s a risk she can’t afford.
Cade Hardy’s partners at Conquistadors are like his brothers, but he’s the money man trying to keep them all afloat. To blow off steam, he’s been sleeping around a little. The last thing he needs is business advice from their crazy-hot new waitress. Cade can’t figure Reece out. She’s smarter than she lets on, and she doesn’t hide her disgust for his active sex life. But after he recognizes her PTSD symptoms, Cade is determined to save her . . . unless she saves him first.
Kelly Jamieson’s intoxicating Last Shot novels can be read together or separately:

My Review:
I've loved this whole series, but I think this one may be my favorite of the three books. Both Reece and Cade have some really tragic stuff in their history and that all takes a while to come out. As a result, there is some great emotional angst to this story.

I love how Reece fits into the world of Conquistadors, although Cade is doing everything he can to thwart her efforts for the first half of the book. I was ready to hit him upside his head, so I'm glad he finally came around...gah, this guy has some control issues. But so does Reece, which is why their relationship begins with so much contention between them. But this is a romance, which means all that contention eventually bursts into combustible chemistry and wow, is it good when that happens.

There is so much depth to these two and that made this a great story to read. I loved them. They are fun and funny when they're fighting, and then so dang sexy when they're not. I loved how Reece felt that compulsion to cook even when she knew that Cade wouldn't like it. It's a part of her, no matter what's happened. so many ways. Then the thing with the bike...OMG! Poor Cade! I can't even imagine trying to do that again.

Both of these characters are incredibly strong and they are truly fantastically scorching together. I have loved this whole series, but this book...just the best! I most definitely recommend it!

Great food, great drinks, and some great romantic, sexy story-telling! All the best.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Where Death Meets the Devil by L.J. Hayward

Title: Where Death Meets the Devil
Author: L.J. Hayward
My Rating: A

Genre: Romantic Suspense (m/m)
Main Characters: Jack and Ethan
Release Date: February 2018
Publisher: Riptide Publishing
Links to Purchase
Sexual Intensity: hot

Story Overview:
Jack Reardon, former SAS soldier and current Australian Meta-State asset, has seen some messy battles. But “messy” takes on a whole new meaning when he finds himself tied to a chair in a torture shack, his cover blown wide open, all thanks to notorious killer-for-hire Ethan Blade.

Blade is everything Jack doesn’t believe in: remorseless, detached, lawless. Yet, Jack’s only chance to survive is to strike a bargain with the devil and join forces with Blade. As they trek across a hostile desert, Jack learns that Blade is much more than a dead-eyed killer—and harder to resist than he should be.

A year later, Jack is home and finally getting his life on track. Then Ethan Blade reappears and throws it all into chaos once more. It’s impossible to trust the assassin, especially when his presence casts doubts on Jack’s loyalty to his country, but Jack cannot ignore what Blade’s return means: the mess that brought them together is far from over, and Ethan might just bring back the piece of Jack’s soul he thought he’d lost forever.
My Review:
This book was absolutely one of the most brilliant romantic suspense books I've ever read. Wow, the way that the author wrote it was truly fantastic.

So...a bit of an explanation. The entire book is written so that one chapter takes place in the "now" and then the next chapter takes place in the "then"...and the reader is there trying to figure out what the heck is really happening. I'll admit I never did feel like I had a handle in what was going to come next. At every turn, the story surprised me. At the end of every single chapter, I was screaming because of the cliff-hangers...because then the story would jump to the other timeframe. Seriously and truly...the book is brilliant! I loved it so, so much!

So, Jack is an agent for the meta-state...a highly secret Australian government agency. Ethan is an assassin for hire. They should never ever be on the same side, but something happened a year ago so that they formed a loose alliance...and then a relationship of sorts. Neither of them completely trusts the other, and as the reader, you sure don't know what is going on.

The entire book is told from Jack's point of view and it was truly brilliant. I loved how the author chose to slowly reveal the story. The relationship between the guys is truly questionable for a lot of the book, but the suspense is so well done, I didn't even notice the missing aspects of the romance early on. For this romance girl, the romance truly was secondary in the story (but never fear, it was there in the end when it mattered).

Now, I'm hesitantly begging for more. Hesitantly, because I loved these two characters so much, it would be brilliant to see more of them. But the author would truly have a hard time matching the intensity of this first book. Honestly, I'd really love to see a second book telling the same story, but this time from Ethan's point of view.

But regardless, the book was amazing and I highly, highly, highly recommend it!

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

How to Date Your Dragon by Molly Harper (audiobook)

Title:  How to Date Your Dragon
Author: Molly Harper
My Rating: A-
Narrator: Amanda Ronconi and Jonathan Davis

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Series: Mystic Bayou #1
Main Characters: Jillian and Bael
Release Date: January 2018 (audiobook)
Publisher: Audible Studios
Links to Purchase
Sexual Intensity: spicy

Story Overview:
Anthropologist Jillian Ramsay's career has taken a turn south.

Concerned that technology is about to chase mythological creatures out into the open (how long can Sasquatch stay hidden from Google maps?), the League for Interspecies Cooperation is sending Jillian to Louisiana on a fact-finding mission. While the League hopes to hold on to secrecy for a little bit longer, they're preparing for the worst in terms of human reactions. They need a plan, so they look to Mystic Bayou, a tiny town hidden in the swamp where humans and supernatural residents have been living in harmony for generations. Mermaids and gator shifters swim in the bayou. Spirit bottles light the front porches after twilight. Dragons light the fires under crayfish pots.

Jillian's first assignment for the League could be her last. Mystic Bayou is wary of outsiders, and she has difficulty getting locals to talk to her. And she can't get the get gruff town sheriff, Bael Boone, off of her back or out of her mind. Bael is the finest male specimen she's seen in a long time, even though he might not be human. Soon their flirtation is hotter than a dragon's breath, which Bael just might turn out to be....

My Review:
Overall: 4.25
Performance: 4.0
Story: 4.25

Ooh, I am going to like this new series. Dragon shifters for the win! Jillian and Bael were much fun and entertaining. I love that Jillian is human, but doing all she can to help the paranormal world. The story of how that happened was AWESOME!

In fact there was a TON of awesome in this book. Bael and his hoard. This little town and the mysterious events happening there. Even the fact that this little town is such a great place for ALL paranormals. They accept everyone.

The romance happened a tiny bit fast for me. I was not expecting the sex to just happen like felt a little out of the blue. But other than that, this first story was perfection. I loved it.

And I loved that there is both a male and female narrator on this one!

I loved it and cannot wait for more to come. Zed next? Maybe? PLEASE...

Fallon needs help with her grandmother’s expenses, and her pretending to be my fake wife is a way we can make that happen. She’s not my biggest fan, but we can help each other and then go our separate ways. That she’s beautiful and I enjoy spending time with her–doesn’t matter.
