Story Overview:
When his younger brother loses interest in online dating, hot, bearded, bartender extraordinaire, Joe Collins, only intends to log into his account and shut it down. Until he reads about her.

Alex Parks is funny, friendly, and pretty much everything he's been looking for in a woman. And in no time at all they're emailing up a storm, telling each other their deepest darkest secrets... apart from the one that really matters.

And when it comes to love, serving it straight up works better than with a twist.
My Review:
It's been a while since the first book in this series came out, and I'd forgotten how much I like this series and this author's writing. I really liked this book...both the characters and the unusual setup.

Alex came to Canada to meet Joe's brother...at least that's whose photo she's seen, but it's actually been Joe who she's been conversing with for months via email. The setup for this was great. Joe is a great big beast of a man...with a lot of hair both on his head and with his beard. He's certainly not the type of guy that Alex would normally be drawn to, but circumstances make it that she can't leave and she quickly finds out that the charming guy in the emails is actually just as nice and sweet in real life.

Despite the unusual circumstances that get them together there is actually a really believable build up of the relationship between the two of them. I loved that and loved watching the two of them start off on this journey that neither thinks really can succeed. They're so fun together.

So much of what made this book so good were the friends that surround the two main characters. I was so excited when Alex's bff, Val, showed up. I loved her and her heartbreaking story so much. I just wanted to hug her after hearing her whole story. But there's also the whole crew from the Dive Bar. With the exception of Eric (it will be interesting to see how Kylie Scott redeems him because he's pretty much a douche in this book), I love all this crew. They're so fun and so welcoming to Alex.

Regardless, I loved this book. There was a huge unexpected event that took me totally by surprise at the 70% mark...wow, I did not see that coming, but it definitely upped this book from a 4 star to a 5 star read! I can't wait for more from the Dive Bar series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

A Dive Bar Novel

From New York Times bestselling author Kylie Scott comes the second sizzling stand-alone novel in the Dive Bar series!
When his younger brother loses interest in online dating, hot bearded bartender Joe Collins only intends to log into his account and shut it down. Until he reads about her.
Alex Parks is funny, fascinating, and pretty much everything he's been looking for in a woman—except that she lives across the country. Soon they're emailing up a storm and telling each other their deepest, darkest secrets...except the one that really matters.
When Alex pays Joe a surprise visit, however, they both discover that when it comes to love, it's always better with a twist.
