Maddy has immersed herself in work and swiftly made a name for herself in the hot New York City real estate market. She’s looking for safety, not love, but Ronan McGuire is as persistent as he is sexy, and his crooked smile is hard to resist. But all other concerns are wiped away when Maddy goes missing and Ronan and his bloodhound K-9 partner are tasked with finding her and bringing her home.

My Review:
I have never read a Sara Humphreys book before...what is wrong with me? This book was so much fun. I completely fell in love with Maddy and Ronan and thoroughly enjoyed this book.

A year ago, Maddy's boyfriend of ten years, a firefighter, died on the job. She left her hometown and moved to NYC because she couldn't handle being there anymore. Ronan also lives in NYC. He's a NYC K-9 cop. They grew up together and he always had a crush on Maddy, although she never really looked at anyone besides her boyfriend, even way back then.

In NYC, they've formed a friendship as Maddy has gone through her mourning period, but now she's coming out of it and truly noticing Ronan as a man. The two are also both standing up at the wedding at home for their best friends, so they've had tasks to do together, which throws them together constantly.

Like I already said...I really just liked this book. There's a lot to the story...their lives in NYC vs. their lives in their small hometown. They are helping with this wedding, while also working their own jobs. There's also a serial killer stalking NYC realtors, which is what Maddy does. And then there's the whole K-9 element...sweet dog and the job that Ronan does. I loved those little glimpses of him working with his dog partner...seriously great touches with just enough detail to keep it truly interesting.

The story was rich in detail and story. I found the romance to be perfect. This is a couple who are truly friends first...which is one of my favorite tropes...friends to lovers. I loved the backstory and the details that came through. The dichotomy between the big city feel of NYC and the small-town charm of their hometown was amazing. I loved Ronan's family and the whole element that the holidays added to the story.

It was a great story and this definitely won't be my last Sara Humphreys book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
