Story Overview:
Most omega werewolves want a mate and pups, but Lee Aung prefers an unconventional party-boy lifestyle. Yet at forty-two, he’s stopped going into heat, which means he’s expired goods—no longer a fertile, young omega that alpha wolves drool over. So Lee uses Wet Heat, a synthetic pheromone, to reel in the alpha hookups.

After losing his job at the bank, Lee can’t afford to keep up his Wet Heat habit. His solution: scam free samples by pretending to be a happily mated test subject at Wet Heat headquarters. There, Lee spends two years being interviewed by the reserved alpha scientist, Cain, who at thirty-two is unmated and—up until this point—content with that.

Cain never really felt his alpha instincts, nor took part in the usual alpha/beta/omega social dynamics. But after discovering that Lee has been lying about his unmated status for two years, Cain finally admits that for the first time, he wants to court an omega. Unfortunately, he’s picked the one omega who doesn’t want to be courted
My Review:
Okay, just when you think that every possible aspect of shifters has been creatively played with in paranormal stories, here come R.D. Hero with a totally new twist on the shifter lore. In her shifter worlds, the Omegas have the pups for the Alphas and the Betas...and in this world it seems like all the wolf shifters are male. Lee is an Omega past his prime. The only way he can attract other Alphas to him now is through a medical ointment that draws them to him. That's not the way Wet Heat was meant to be used, but Lee doesn't think twice about manipulating the system to get this liquid gold. He's the original flamboyant, party guy, having a different alpha or beta every night. He doesn't realize he hasn't been quite so effective with his subterfuge as he thinks.

Cain is an Alpha, but he's not a normal Alpha. He's a very scientific, cerebral guy rather than one who's ruled by his instincts as an Alpha. Lee challenges what he thinks about himself because when he's around Lee suddenly all those Alpha traits come forth, needing to conquer and dominate Lee. And Lee really needs an Alpha to take control of him.

There's a lot to love about this story. It's really creative. I love how protective Lee is of his nephew. While he shuns normal Omega behavior, it shows up every time he's around his nephew. There's also a bit of a light suspense story line that I liked. And I loved the tiny plot bunny with Lee's nephew and his beta roommate. I didn't quite feel as much of a connection between Cain and Lee as I would have liked, but they had a few moments that were fabulous.

It was a fun book and like I mentioned before...super creative. This is my first read from R.D. Hero, but it won't be my last. She has some interesting ideas.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
