Story Overview:
Sex and the City meets The Wedding Planner in this prequel to USA TODAY bestselling author Lauren Layne’s The Wedding Belles series about three high-powered New York City women who can plan any wedding—but their own.

Up-and-coming wedding photographer Leah McHale’s career is on the rise–thanks in no small part to the Wedding Belles, the elite New York wedding planning agency that always throws top-tier business Leah’s way. So when one of the Belles asks Leah to fill in at the former First Daughter's wedding, Leah is overjoyed to say yes–until she finds out who she’ll be working with.

Jason Rhodes is the one man who was able to capture Leah’s heart and, once he had it, promptly stepped all over it and left her broken. Now he’s working side-by-side with her at the biggest wedding of the season and Leah is determined to give him the cold shoulder. Despite his persistence, she is not going to fall for his charming, impish ways again. Not even if he still has that killer, irresistible smile...

My Review:
Okay, it's no secret that I love pretty much everything Lauren Layne writes, but I've never read a novella from her and wasn't sure if her style would stand up to a shorter story. No worries...it totally did.

A year ago, Leah and Jason met through their work with the Wedding Belles. They are both preferred contract photographers for the wedding planning company. Although they dated for two months, they hadn't set parameters for their relationship. They weren't exclusive. But when Leah showed up at Jason's apartment and found another woman wearing his shirt, Leah was devastated and embarrassed. Their relationship obviously meant more to her than him. She should have known better, and her mortification kept her from answering his many phone calls in the month afterwards.

They haven't seen one another since that morning, so things are naturally awkward when once again they find themselves working together for a weekend destination wedding.

I loved the way this story unfolded. Obviously neither Jason nor Leah recovered from their breakup. The chemistry between the two of them sizzles off the page from the very beginning of the story. My heart broke for Jason as more and more of his backstory came out...and then the explanation was a brilliant twist that I honestly didn't see coming.

I LOVED this little novella. It's a short read, but it packs a powerful emotional punch. The characters are well-developed and I honestly loved both of them. This is the start of the new series about the wedding planners and gave the reader a little glimpse into what's to come with the series. I, for one, can't wait. It's going to be another winner from Lauren Layne. I can already tell.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
