Story Overview:
Carter Darling’s life has been a whirlwind since his mother was elected to the senate when he was a teen. From private school to joining the military, he tried to forge his own path while making as few ripples as possible. But an injury forced him to figure out new goals for his life. After his parents were involved in a sex scandal, he decided to go back home to Tennessee to get some distance and get away from the madness.

He didn’t bargain on Jeremy Beck returning at the same time.

Jeremy was finally past the rich boy angst that made for some dramatic teenage years, but he hadn’t earned back much respect from his parents by playing in an indie band. Now that his band was on hiatus, Jeremy was looking for space from his unhealthy non-relationship with a band mate, so returning home to figure out his next step seemed like the way to go.

Their initial reunion turned awkward. Carter was still holding on to hurts from their last meeting and Jeremy was trying to convince himself that Carter was still just his sister’s closeted little friend. But when they open up to one another again and decide a staycation fling would be a nice distraction, they may get more than they bargained for.

For two guys who’ve had so much drama in their lives, it might surprise them to find that sometimes love is found in the simple things. Who knew?

My Review:
If you're looking for a book with a sweet romance, this is the book for you. Growing up, Carter was best friends with Jeremy's sister. At two years older, Jeremy was always there, but it was in a remote way...and Carter always carried a crush on the bi-sexual man. The problem is, Carter has never been out of the closet. His mom is a politician and he always hid that side of him at her request. But now, his parents have blown it. Rather than her political career being taken down by his "sexual proclivities", they tanked it themselves with some rather sketchy behavior. Carter is completely disenchanted so he went to the other place where he could simply be himself...Jeremy's family ranch.

Jeremy is the black sheep of the family. He has a history of drug use, questionable life choices and a myriad of tattoos marring his skin. He's also part of an Indie band and has been the third to a married couple who also play in the band. After years of crushing on the male part of the couple, he needs a break so goes home...and there he finds the intriguing Carter.

Jeremy has some self-confidence issues. He sees himself as the bad seed although he's really straightened himself out over the years. But it was Carter's disappointment in him that brought about that change. He owes Carter everything, but at the forefront of that list is that he thinks he needs to stay away from Carter for his own good.

This is a story about two men who truly just work with one another. They're good together. They each see the truths in the other that most people don't see. There is also incredibly hot chemistry between them that makes it all work. Because of Carter's history, he doesn't have a lot of experience. Jeremy is just the opposite. I really enjoyed that dichotomy.

It was, simply put, a thoroughly enjoyable book to read. I liked both characters and I liked getting to watch their romance blossom.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
