Story Overview:
In the remote Rocky Mountains, lives depend on the Search & Rescue brotherhood. But in a place this far off the map, trust is hard to come by and secrets can be murder...

As the captain of Field County's ice rescue dive team, Callum Cook is driven to perfection. But when he meets new diver Louise "Lou" Sparks, all that hard-won order is obliterated in an instant. Lou is a hurricane. A walking disaster. And with her, he's never felt more alive...even if keeping her safe may just kill him.

Lou's new to the Rockies, intent on escaping her controlling ex, and she's determined to make it on her own terms...no matter how tempting Callum may be. But when a routine training exercise unearths a body, Lou and Callum find themselves thrust into a deadly game of cat and mouse with a killer who will stop at nothing to silence Lou-and prove that not even her new Search and Rescue family can keep her safe forever.
My Review:
Callum is the dive chief for the search and rescue crew. Lou is the newest recruit. They are perfect for one another in that they are just so completely opposite one another. Callum is a serious, by the books, guy and he seriously doesn't know what to make of Lou. I loved the scenes with them together, because they are just so completely different. She's wild and chaotic and says the funniest off the wall things which makes him almost smile (which is a HUGE show of emotion for him.)

I thought the author did an amazing job with Callum. It's not easy to write a character who is that reserved all the time, but she created him so well so that the reader got to see glimpses of his emotion. It made it so when he really let loose, his actions had that much more impact. I loved him and Lou together and how much he did loosen up over the course of the book with her influence.

There's a lot happening in this book...Lou's stalker, the headless dead guy (HDG in Lou speak) mystery, and just the overall chaos that is Lou's life since she moved to Colorado seven months ago. I liked her and her determination to make it in fairly rough living conditions...her cabin is pretty remote and rustic. I love how good of friends she and Derek have become (he's the hero from the first novella in the series and it was so fun to get to know him better.) The two of them together are like the mischievous toddlers sitting in the back of the class egging one another on and I loved every time they started going together. But there is one scene there with him that melted my heart because he was so scared for her.

And of course, there is tons of action and adventure in this one, too. That final dive scene killed me with the adrenaline and suspense. Wow, I did not see that coming, but it was a fabulous climactic scene.

I loved this story and am so excited that Ian's is coming next...there were certain aspects of the HDG story that were not wrapped up and I cannot wait to see where that is going. And with those final two paragraphs, the author hinted that it's going to be another wild ride with all these favorite characters. Yay.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
