Having grown up with artistic implements always in hand, there's almost nothing Austin can't make real. Except for one thing—an official relationship with his best friend, rowing teammate and occasional hookup, Vinnie.
The combination of emotional and sexual frustration fuels a spark between Austin and the nude model in his drawing class. Austin isn't used to having trouble focusing; models are merely challenging subjects to be rendered on paper. But the geology TA's direct blue gaze is powerful enough to drag Austin's focus away from his physique.
After a quick and very dirty post-class encounter, all the reasons that Austin has been waiting for his best friend go fuzzy in his mind. Sean is nothing like Vinnie. Sean is persistent, pays attention, and makes it clear he wants to be together.
But if Austin can't get his head and his heart on the same page, he could lose his friend, or his lover. Or both.
Warning: Contains rock geeks, tent sex, a dictatorial cox whose idea of a good time is drawing naked dudes, plus one naked dude who wants to be more than a good time.
I can't talk about this book without first talking about Austin and Vinnie. They've had a friends with benefits arrangement for years, but Austin wants and needs more than a once a month hook-up that Vinnie treats more as a chore and a relief-valve than as something he actually enjoys. Austin can't go on being the only one committed to this relationship.
So when Sean catches his eye while modeling naked for Austin's art class, Austin dives in. Having sex with someone who wants and appreciates him, Austin, is huge after all these years. But Austin is also very upfront with Sean, letting him know that his heart belongs to someone else.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the artistic aspect of Austin's degree and work. But I also really loved the camping that Sean is constantly doing. Austin cracked me up over and over on that first camping trip. I also loved getting to see Austin blossom under Sean's attention. He deserves this really nice guy after putting up with Vinnie all those years. My heart just hurts for how stunted Vinnie kept him emotionally. Which is interesting because Vinnie's book is next. He's certainly not my favorite character, but if anyone can change my mind about him, Amy Jo Cousins can.
From the very start, this has been a good series. This installment of it is right up there. It was highly entertaining with a good mix of memorable characters. I absolutely fell in love with Sean and just how good he is for Austin.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
