Sexual Intensity: hot
That is until Noah Walters offers him shelter for the night and a reluctant cross-country ride. Nothing about the ultraconservative geoarchaeologist should attract Adrian, but once he discovers Noah's hidden love for video games, the two connect on a new level. Soon, a quiet but undeniable chemistry sparks.
Something doesn't add up, though. As the miles accumulate and time runs out, Noah must face the most difficult choice of his life. Meanwhile, Adrian must decide whether he's ready to level up. Is their relationship status worth fighting for, or has this game ended before it's even begun?
Wow, I really loved this book...so much more than I expected to. It was sweet and fun and sexy and I completely fell in love with these two guys who, on the surface, seem like complete opposites. But they work together so well.
All his life, Adrian has been the screw-up of the family. Despite the fact that he's one of the lead designers on one of the most popular video games to ever have been developed, in his family of professionals, he just doesn't measure up. So being abandoned with his dog and no shoes in the middle of an RV park a few days before Thanksgiving and his sister's wedding is just par for the course. He so doesn't want to make that call to have someone come rescue him.
So the person that does rescue him is Noah, a deeply closeted archeology professor from a VERY conservative Christian university in Texas. Noah isn't sure what to do with Adrian either, but he knows he likes the guy...and then they realize just how much they have in common and he offers him a ride home. They just don't realize they're driving into a snowstorm.
These two guys broke my heart. They both know there's simply no way this can work. Noah is sure not willing to give up his career when he's on the cusp of achieving all of his career goals. And there's no way he could come out as gay and keep his job. He signed a moral agreement that says so. Their relationship is destined for failure, but they can have these few days to enjoy one another first. Adrian is incredible about giving Noah his space. This is all new to Noah and Adrian is so careful and cognizant of not pushing him too far too fast. I love that about him. And then there's Noah on the other side who knows this will probably be his only chance to make some memories that will have to last him his lifetime (seriously...heartbreaking). Once he's in, he's all in and I loved that about him too.
The way the story unfolded was pure perfection and felt so real. I just loved every part of the story. I highly recommend it and did a little dance this morning when I saw that this is listed as #1 in the series. Whohoo! I cannot wait for more in this series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
