Story Overview:
The Boys of Summer are back! In Katie Rose’s sweet, sparkling novel, the newest New Jersey Sonic falls for the woman who’s trying desperately to save his career.

Physical therapist Jessica Hart has learned her lesson: Never date professional athletes. She’s been down that road, and barely recovered after the relationship crashed and burned. Then Jessica meets Gavin King. An All-Star slugger with chiseled good looks, Gavin was traded to the Sonics because he hurt his knee sliding into second, and now his future is in her hands. Gavin’s no bad boy—but he’s tempting enough to make Jessica think twice about all her rules.

Gavin is trying to find a comfortable routine. If he wants his old life back, he must take it easy, stay out of the limelight, and keep his distance from gorgeous redheaded physical therapists. The thing is, Gavin isn’t the kind of guy to sit on his ass and let other people pull his weight. And when he sees something he wants, he can’t help but fight for it, even if it means risking everything, even if it only lasts a single moment: like one kiss from Jessica.
My Review:
I do love reading sports themed romantic stories and this was another one that I recommend because I really enjoyed it.

In the course of a single injury, Gavin's world has come crashing down around him. He's been traded from the Dodger's (California) to a mid-list team, the Sonics (New Jersey). His girlfriend isn't interested in him anymore and no one knows if he'll ever be able to play again. For a guy like Gavin who's always been on top of the world, this is a harsh new reality. And the Sonics are like no other team in baseball...they're goofballs and they live in Jersey...it's like being on another planet and Gavin just doesn't know how to react to any of it.

I loved the vulnerability to Gavin just because he is so far out of his element when this book begins. He's also skirting really close to the edge of depression over it all. I could feel for him.

Then there's Jessica. She's the physical therapist for the team. I loved her. She's a tomboy who grew up in a family of 5 or 6 brothers. She's as devoted to sports and making this team, and Gavin, succeed as anyone. But getting involved with Gavin frees something in her. She has a bit of feminine transformation in this book as she begins to think of herself as a sexual, sexy woman...something that's truly new to her. I'm a sucker for a good transformation.

And then there's the baseball. I think that's one of the reasons I love sports books so much...I love the team aspect of this group of men working toward a common goal. It creates a camaraderie which is so fun to read. I love these guys and just how much of a hard time they give one another. They work hard at their jobs, but for this team, they play even harder...and they're just so lovably dorky in their antics. I love this team.

This has been a fun series and I enjoyed this installment. Gavin and Jessica have a forbidden relationship, but their chemistry is undeniable. Whoa...that first encounter between them was smoking hot. The book is sexy. The story is heart-tugging. The team is fun and fabulous. I also fell in love with Jessica's family and her protective brothers. It was just a great read. I recommend it!

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
