Story Overview:
The darkest shadows sometimes have the brightest moments.

The Mythical Knights, book #0.5

Losing a father is always hard, losing a father who’s a pillar of the community is harder.

Losing a father who’s the alpha of your werewolf pack is harder still, yet that’s exactly where David Drigan finds himself--lost and rudderless after the death of his father.

Nonetheless, the final transformation to turn David into the leader has yet to come to him, leaving him and his family wondering, will he ever be strong enough to lead his pack?

Trying to step into his place in society, David meets Kelsey.

Blonde. Curvy. Attitude.

And a little dark.

There’s just something about her that makes David’s beastly desires surface unlike ever before. The need to take her and protect her, if only from herself, overwhelms him.

Not that Kelsey would let him. She doesn’t need anyone to take care of her. Never has. An absentee family taught her one thing--take care of yourself, because no one’s going to do it for you.

But this David guy? There’s just something different about him. At first, she thought it was because his family actually likes each other--a foreign concept for sure.

One night at her favorite decrepit amusement park, she learns there’s a lot more to David than she ever expected.

There’s a lot hidden in the shadows.

Can they find the light, lost in the dark?

My Review:
What a great introduction to this new series. I really liked this one.

There are several questions that flow throughout this book. The first is...Why hasn't David's alpha come to him? The book starts in the aftermath of David's fathers death. As the oldest son, David should now be the alpha, but in this world, that's a physical change for David which hasn't happened, and no one knows why. As a result, everyone, especially David, is in limbo waiting for something to change. In the midst of that, he meets Kelsey.

I had other questions regarding Kelsey. She's different and I wasn't sure if that meant she was going to be revealed as a mythical herself (one of this world's "other" creatures) or if she is simply more naturally in-tune with the mythical world. Because she does have a sixth sense, and I liked that about her. It made her really fit with David. But if they fit so well, why can't David tell they're mates? (Question #3...hmm).

I won't tell you the answer to any of these questions because they're answered beautifully in this riveting and entertaining book. I liked the whole story with Kelsey and her job and how that brought her into David's realm. It provided some great introductions to some of the other really fascinating characters in this book. I also loved David's family and am ready to read more. It was just a great read, although I already had a mild phobia about amusement parks...I think this story just ramped that up about ten-fold.

The romance worked for me. I loved the paranormal aspects. The world was really creative. I'm ready for more in this series because this first book was phenomenal. Neil next? He's David's brother...and he's turned a bit reclusive. I can't wait to see what his story reveals.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
