Sexual Intensity: hot
In small-town Oklahoma, reputation is everything, and Kenna Starr will do anything to overcome hers. The supposed bad girl is determined to walk the straight and narrow, a seemingly impossible task when Tall, Dark and Sexy shows up…
Rich and powerful, Dane Michaelson is every woman's dream. When he returns to Strawberry Valley after a sixteen-year absence, he is unprepared for the redheaded girl he's never been able to forget. She's all woman now—and he's never wanted anyone more. But to have her, he'll have to break through her defenses… and surrender his own.
There's a lot to this story for a novella and I think it suffered a little bit for that because none of the various threads really got the chance to get fully developed. BUT with that being said, I did enjoy reading this one and am really looking forward to the series.
There is a lot to this story...
*Dane & Kenna's mutual bonding trauma from childhood
*Dane's brother's horrific death which left him scarred.
*BOTH their issues with their parents
*Kenna's assault at 16 (and I'm sorry...I know that's not how she saw it, but that's totally what it was)
*Dane's issues with children and commitment
*Dane's over controlling mother
*Kenna's college funding
*issues with reputations and cheating
^^^Not all those issues were resolved and that's disappointing because the threads were there for some great depth. BUT I did enjoy what was in the story. I just wished she'd closed up some of the dangling threads.
The chemistry between Kenna and Dane worked for me, but to me, Norrie stole the show in this one. This precocious 6 year old that spoke every word she'd ever heard charmed me completely. But her appearance in this world broke my heart for Kenna...and I needed more from that...because there should have been justice for that abused 16 yo she'd been. And the town should be ashamed for judging her so harshly for it.
But like I said, it's a novella setting up a new series. It had some issues...the beginning 40% and last 10% read like a completely different book from the middle. But the middle was amazing and completely sold me on what's upcoming. I think we got to meet all three of the heroes for the upcoming books and they were intriguing in a totally bad-boy kind of way. I can't wait to see what Gena does with the rest of the series. I think the rest will be better because they will be full-length stories.
