Story Overview:
When a series of bombs go off in a Therian youth center, injuring members of THIRDS Team Destructive Delta, and causing a rift between agents Dexter J. Daley and Sloane Brodie, peace seems unattainable. Especially when a new and frightening group, the Order of Adrasteia, appears to always be a step ahead. With panic and intolerance spreading and streets becoming littered with the Order’s propaganda, hostility between Humans and Therians grows daily. Dex and Sloane, along with the rest of the team, are determined to take down the Order and restore peace, not to mention settle a personal score. But the deeper the team investigates the bombings, the more they believe there’s a more sinister motive than a desire to shed blood and spread chaos.

Discovering the frightful truth behind the Order’s intent forces Sloane to confront secrets from a past he thought he’d left behind for good, a past that could not only destroy him and his career, but also the reputation of the organization that made him all he is today. Now more than ever, Dex and Sloane need each other, and, along with trust, the strength of their bond will mean the difference between justice and all-out war.

My Review:
I am really loving this series. In this book, Sloane and Dex are getting more involved, although Sloane doesn't really know what to do with that. He's still hurting after Gabe's death and doesn't really want to put himself in the position of the possibility of that kind of hurt again.

On the one hand this book is beautiful, because the two are growing closer. But on the other hand, it's painful because as the reader you can see that if they continue on this trajectory they are both going to be desperately hurt. It's a great balance that the author has developed and it definitely kept me at the edge of my seat. I love both these guys and can see just how incredible they are going to be together once they finally commit to that, but they have so much baggage standing in the way...well, really Sloane does...and that's definitely overflowing onto Dex.

There are several scenes in this book pertaining to Gabe and my heart just absolutely broke for Dex. He's such a good, sweet guy, so he handles it all incredibly well, but that doesn't change the pain that he is feeling. For this angst-loving reader, I love that, but it's still painful.

I also really, really loved the side stories of the brothers...both Cael and then the issues going on with Calvin and Hobbes. These books have an incredibly rich and versatile cast of characters and I love them all with their idiosyncrasies...yes, even Ash.

Everything about these books are good. They are filled with emotion, a wonderfully rich cast of characters, a romance I can cheer and hope for, great suspenseful scenes, and an overall message that I love. I can't wait to see what's going to happen in book #3.
