Averaging out my reviews for all 6 novellas, I rate the anthology as a B+ overall.

Blurb: As a member of the New York Fire Department, single father Tim Davis is about as tough as they come. But underneath the muscles and tattoos, he still nurses a bruised heart handed to him courtesy of his first love. While on vacation with his son in New Orleans, Tim runs into the very woman that taught him about love before pulling it all away.
Holly Reynolds is rebuilding her life as an orthopedic doctor, far away from her home in New York City and her controlling father… the man responsible for tearing her and Tim apart. While she knows the hurt she caused Tim could never be forgiven, she can’t help the overwhelming feelings she still has for her first and deepest love.
Truths are revealed as lies are exposed.
Two people come back together again to explore the fragile emotional bonds that still keep them tethered, even as their passion ignites hotter than any fire Tim has ever had to put out before.

Off Duty by Sawyer Bennett
My Rating: B
My Review:
I do enjoy stories about second chances and this one was pretty cute. Ten years ago, Holly's father managed to rip apart Tim and Molly their senior year in high school. Neither has ever fully recovered from that, although they have managed to move on in their lives...until they meet unexpectedly again in the ER.

The saying Love is Love tends to be used in LGBT couples (at least in my experience, but I may be off here), but I really loved the twist on it in this relationship. I love that theme and the fact that these two were in love as teenagers. I enjoyed the set-up and pretty much everything about the overall story. That being said, the romance felt a little too soon for me. I understand it's a novella, but I needed just a tiny bit more of anticipation and exhilaration between the two. Just a tiny bit. I did like that there was resolution between Holly and her family, too. It was fun and sweet. Overall, I liked it.

After losing the love of his life to another man, Flash is heartbroken and lost. Wanting to forget, he heads to New Orleans. He finds the unexpected. A chance encounter could alter his fate or will she become his rebound?

My Review:
Short stories can be hit or miss for me, because it is really hard to develop a full story in a few words. I realize that, so I admire authors that do it well for this picky reader. This one didn't quite make it for me. While the book was really, really hot. The development and chemistry between the two characters happened off the page and the reader was just told how well they meshed in every aspect. I needed just a bit more of that shown in the story for me to connect with the characters.

Blurb: Jordie Thomas is looking for something to take his mind off of the woman he let go—or rather, pushed away—and the terrifying prospect of what will happen if his broken leg doesn’t heal. He’s ready to get back to his family and fellow teammates on the Nashville Assassins and get back onto the ice. However, with his injured leg in the way and his mind clouded by a certain woman, he needs a break that’ll help clear his head and his heart. With New Orleans in his sights, can this player—on and off the ice—find a way to get back to the crazy and reckless life he used to live? Find out and follow along as author Toni Also takes readers on one wild journey in this Assassins novella.

Wanting to Forget by Toni Aleo
My Rating: C
My Review:
Flat-out, I wasn't a fan of this novella. The story is about Jordie and is leading into the release of his novel, so it's showing where he needs to grow as a character. Unfortunately, there are too many problems revealed with him in this little story to the point that I didn't like all. He's a jerk. He treats women like trash. He's in NOLA, trying to get over the girl he dumped because he loves her. (Yes, you read that right.) How he does screwing as many women as possible. Yeah...NO!

Blurb: Dr. Derek Babineaux is intelligent, dedicated, and one of the best ER physicians in the fast-paced world of critical care at Tulane Medical in New Orleans. Always on top of his game, he’s thrown off balance when the newest staff member finally unleashes his hidden desires. Justin Delacroix’s job at the inner city’s busiest hospital might be just what he needs to ease back into civilian life after a long stint in the military. High-preforming shifts make working as a trauma nurse at TMC the perfect way to utilize his skills and quick reaction times. There’s only one problem, his attraction for one sexy ER doctor is off the charts, but he has his reasons for not returning Dr. Baby’s night shift advances. Or maybe he doesn't.

My Review:
How did I not see that twist coming? But because I didn't see it, I LOVED it! Wow, this was a GREAT novella. I loved everything about this story. Justin's history and his difficulties with his partner, the hospital setting, Dr. Babineaux's aunt, the great, flirty nurses. It was all done so well  and so perfectly woven to create a great, romantic, sweet (and HAWT) story! Love, love, love. And that ending was simply perfection. If I had one complaint, it's that I wanted more...not because the story lacked anything (because it totally didn't), but just that I did really like these two characters. Maybe we'll get to see more of them in the upcoming SECRET. I can't wait!

Blurb: She spends her nights treating patients, but Dr. Jocelyn Drake’s own wounds are unfixable. Her ex-husband and his younger, bouncier girlfriend work just a few floors away at Tulane Medical Center, and they serve as a constant reminder of what Joss lost. But a fierce determination to continue her research project and a shred of remaining pride keep Joss from transferring out of the Big Easy. Carson Stephens recently returned from a tour of duty in the Middle East, and though willing women present themselves at every turn, his closest companion is loneliness. His night-shift work supervising the electrical and mechanical systems at the hospital is a perfect fit – it’s solitary work putting broken things back together. When the electrical system on Joss’ floor goes haywire, she’s frazzled by the sexy electrician who sparks her dormant sex drive. He’s brooding and cocky – so not her type. But if Carson has his way, his hands will work their magic on more than just the wiring, and he’ll show Joss a night of passion that restores her shattered confidence.

Healing Touch by Brenda Rothert
My Rating: A
My Review:
I liked this story a lot. It takes place over a single night, but the connection between Carson and Jocelyn felt real. That takes some real skill by the author to create a believable chemistry in such a short amount of time. I liked both characters and the glimpses of their back-stories...Jocelyn with her cheating ex and Carson trying to get on in the real world after life in the military. This is a Happily for Now story, but I could believe that it could easily turn into an Ever After story. I liked the characters and how they spent the night getting to know one another. And the Magic 8 ball was a really fun touch to the romance for Jocelyn.

Blurb: One lie can change your life. A web of lies can destroy it. Neil Ryan was a good Navy SEAL. He was an even better detective, but when an unmarked envelope lands on Ryan’s desk, long-buried secrets are resurrected and Ryan questions everything he thought he knew about justice, including who killed his mother. Now he’s chasing a ghost, swimming in the shadows of the past, searching for answers. All he’s found are dead ends and more mysteries. Ryan lands in America’s wildest, sexiest city tangling with a redhead, chasing down a dead woman, and trying to get his best friend to stop hounding him about a business he wants no part of. When a set up sends him straight to Tulane Medical, and into the care of the girl he never forgot, Ryan finds the strength and healing he seeks to unravel the mysteries of the past.

Swimming in Shadows by Eden Butler
My Rating: B+
My Review:
Hmm, this was an interesting story, but it's not a complete story. This is about Neil Ryan who is life, in alcohol, in unanswered questions. He lost his job when evidence showed up that all wasn't right in the death of his mother. He can't give up the search, but he keeps banging his head against a solid wall. In the meantime, he's spinning out of control...and losing focus with the loss of his job. He needs to find out what actually happened, but he also has to start living again. Neither of those things happens in this novella, but it's an interesting set-up for his story which is coming soon. I think I could really like his character, but it's still a little too early in his story to tell. I do really like his friend, Sammy, and Sammy's cousin, who's also a very intriguing doctor. It's a good set-up book.
