Story Overview:
In New York Times bestselling author Karen Robards's latest heart-pounding romantic suspense novel, a woman must track down her husband's murderer—or risk being the next victim of a vicious killer.

When Riley Cowan finds her estranged husband Jeff dead in his palatial home, she's sure it's no coincidence. The police rule it a suicide, but Riley thinks someone's out for blood—specifically someone Jeff's father ripped off in one of the biggest financial fraud cases of all time. She suspects that someone is trying to send a message to Jeff's father: Tell me where the money is, or everyone you care about will die.

Riley's in-laws might be billionaires, but she's afraid that not even their dirty money can protect her from an irate investor who will stop at nothing to get his hands on his misappropriated cash. Enter Finn Bradley, Philly-based FBI agent and Riley's love interest from way back when. Finn agrees to help Riley, and the two reignite sparks they both thought were extinguished long ago. But can they discover the killer's identity in time, before he resurfaces—and strikes again?

Dubbed an "exceptional storyteller" by the Chicago Tribune and "one of the most popular voices in women's fiction" by Newsweek, Karen Robards's latest action-packed novel will keep you glued to the pages until the final, shocking conclusion.

My Review:
While I already own several of Karen Robard's books, they are all on my tbr shelves. So this is the first book of hers that I've ever read and wow...why have I waited so long to read one of her books? This book was fabulous!

The book starts with Riley finding the body of her ex-husband in an apparent suicide...something she doesn't believe for a moment. Her FIL was a bad man who stole billions of dollars. He's gone to jail, but no one knows where the money is...and LOTS of people want it, including several governments. Yes, ours too. That's where Finn comes in. He's working for the US government under the guise of the FBI to locate that money too. Riley knows she can't trust him, but with hit man after her at every turn, she doesn't have much choice.

This is a great romantic thriller. I was seriously on the edge of my seat, reading as fast as I could. It's one of those books that gets your adrenaline pumping just through the act of reading it. But it's not all about the suspense. This is a great romance too. What makes it so good is that neither the hero nor the heroine is sure that they can trust the other...so they are completely unwilling to go to that place mentally or physically. BUT they are thrown together constantly and their chemistry is sizzling...so stuff happens. ;)

I also found the backstory between Riley and Jeff's family fabulous. Riley was dirt-poor growing up and met Jeff when she was bartending. The billionaire world was never one she felt comfortable in, but Jeff's mom and sister accepted her and welcomed her in. When the government arrested Jeff's dad, they seized EVERYTHING and he went to jail. Jeff, his mom, and his sister had no idea what to do. They'd always had that wealth and Riley became the backbone of their little family even though she and Jeff had divorced...they stayed friends. That right there was a huge example of how strong she is. She's the one moving this family forward and getting them to where they need to be. She's a great character!

I have at least 3 of Karen Robard's former releases on my shelf right now. I NEED to go get them out and read them. I definitely recommend this one if you're a lover of romantic suspense!

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
