If life is like a box of chocolates, Cat Butler has tasted them all—and decided on none. It's no wonder she can't keep a job, even though her mother's health depends on it. Just when she finds herself up a creek without a paddle—again—a benevolent friend throws her a lifeline. In the form of a job at, of all places, a phone sex hotline. Not exactly what she had in mind, but if it pays the bills for her mom's expensive nursing home, what's the harm?
Successful entrepreneur Flynn McGrady knows a thing or two about responsibility. So when his mother has a stroke, he knows the right thing to do is relocate to Atlanta to be near her while she recovers. He's got a plan for everything—except for feisty Cat, who finally gets his mama to talk again. Talk dirty, that is, and he's not pleased. Cat is gorgeous and sassy to boot…too bad she's not the type to settle down.
Cat and Flynn may have bigger fish to fry, but the sparks between them are hotter than hell. And when they finally give in to temptation, the results are explosive. Can a girl who follows her heart and a guy who follows his head find their way to forever?
Honestly, I went into this book having read #1 in the series first. Because that book was so incredibly good and this was a novella, I truly thought this one would be somewhat of a let-down. But I read it because I was hoping to see some scenes with Landon before he died. I got that and so much more from this novella. It may be a shortened book, but it is in no way short on story or emotion. I cried almost as much in this one as I did reading #1 (which I reviewed yesterday and gave an A++ rating.)
This book is about three people who by a series of coincidences and fate find their lives intertwined. It takes place about a year before book #1. Cat met Landon when he was doing chemotherapy. He was this eccentric, sweet, caring, smiling guy who obviously had money, but even in the midst of his own sickness, was doing all he could to make those around him feel better. Cat was there visiting her mother who got hurt and needed extra care. She also works next door at the coffee shop. Flynn's mom is also at the facility recovering from a stroke and doesn't like the fact that Cat with her dirty romances is the one helping her recover.
Cat is one of those people...she's so giving of herself and takes care of everyone, but she's more than a little flighty in her own life. When she loses her 13th job and faces her mom being kicked out of the facility, Landon steps up and offers her the perfect job for her...managing a phone sex company that currently runs out of his penthouse.
Landon...even if this book sucked (which it totally doesn't!), I would totally love it because it shows Landon before he died. In the first book the reader doesn't get that. You only get to see his legacy of love that he leaves behind for his two friends. But this book showed him...nice guy, who so should have lived longer because he made everyone's life around him better. I bawled all the way through the final chapter. But what I really love is that this entire series has been built around this guy and the legacy he's left of this company. It's a phone sex company, but he used it to save so many people. It's a delicious irony that I just love.
And I haven't even touched on Flynn and Cat's relationship. I loved how completely they were. Flynn is uptight and controlled except around Cat. They are a great match.
I am already a huge fan of this series. And there is so much emotion to the books (so far), but they aren't all tears. These are Dakota Cassidy books...maybe you've heard of her...she's pretty fabulous with snark and that humor is definitely in these too.
