Story Overview:
Hollywood is full of dirty secrets, but Carter refuses to be Levi’s.

Retired action star Levi Pritchard has made a quiet life for himself in the sleepy logging town of Bluewater Bay, Washington. But then Hollywood comes to film the wildly popular television series Wolf’s Landing, and Bluewater Bay isn’t so sleepy anymore. His retirement doesn’t stick, either, because he’s offered a part on the show—exactly the kind of complex role he’d always wanted, one that would prove him more than a glorified stuntman. The only catch? He has to stay in the closet—no matter how attractive he finds his co-star.

Carter Samuels is the critically-acclaimed male lead on Wolf’s Landing. And now, the man who inspired him to take up acting—and made him realize he’s gay—is joining the cast, and sparks fly between them instantly. But Carter is out and proud and determined to stay true to himself.

Remaining just friends is the only thing to do, as both the studio and Levi’s disapproving, dysfunctional family keep reminding them. Except their friendship deepens by the day, tempting them with what they can’t have but both desperately need.

My Review:
What a fun first book in this series. I loved it.

Levi Pritchard was an action hollywood star, but he got sick of all the pretense of hollywood and left it all behind for a quiet, obscure life in Backwater Bay. He hated the business/pr side of the business, but adored acting and misses that outlet and now works sporadically directing at the local theater. But since he's moved there, his quiet little town has become the home of a paranormal tv series featuring werewolves and the hunky Carter Samuels as the lead.

Levi and Carter are both fanboys of the others work and I loved that. They are both infatuated with both the man and the actor in the other person and connect so perfectly on so many levels. They also both have a deep, abiding love for film and quickly form a great friendship through that common interest and watching old movies in Levi's home theater. This book covers several months and the two guys truly become friends before anything else. Levi is so deeply into the closet, Carter isn't even sure he's gay. In fact, Carter is pretty sure he's straight, but that's before the chemistry between them begins to buzz.

The entire book is set on a Hollywood backdrop. Even though it takes place in this tiny little town, all their lives are very hollywood-esque. As a result, Levi is having to deal with all that again...the paparazzi, the intrusive questions and examination of his life...he hates it. But he loves acting and the role he's been offered on the show is his dream role. It becomes more a question of what does he want more...his acting or a relationship with Carter. That seems simple on the surface, especially to a romance reader, but I thought that L.A. Witt did an amazing job showing that it's not all black and white even when Levi supposedly made his decision years ago. I thought she did a brilliant job of up-ing the suspense and conflict of that question and made the entire scenario extremely believable.

Like I said, I truly enjoyed this one. This is the start of a new series set in Blackwater Bay and I can honestly say now that I fully plan to read the entire series. A great start!!

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
