Sexual Intensity: mild
When she believes a teen is falsely accused of drug dealing, social worker Carly Taylor takes on a high-risk case and her estranged husband—the detective in charge of the investigation—to prove the boy innocent. A deadly new designer drug has taken hold of her small rural hometown of Solitude, Oregon, and Carly is determined to find the real dealer and clear the teen’s name. But the deeper she digs into the case, the more danger she unearths, until someone decides it’s time for Carly to move on…permanently.
Investigator Seth Harding knows he can’t stop his wife when she has a child to protect. But he risks any chance of reconciliation with Carly if he can’t learn to accept her dangerous job. When a drug dealer decides Carly is getting too close, will Seth lose her altogether?
A pulse-pounding Rogue River novella, Gone to Her Grave is the second exciting addition to the new romantic suspense series from Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot.
The situation between Seth and Carly is painful to read. It's not that they don't love each other anymore...that was never the issue. No, Seth doesn't respect the job Carly does as a social worker. He wants to change her which has put them at an impasse...one that isn't overcome in this particular installment of this interesting series.
What is accomplished in this book is that the reader gets to know both of them better, their jobs within the legal system in Solitude, and there are more clues revealed about the new, very dangerous drug that has made itself into this tiny town.
Although there isn't any resolution for Seth and Carly in this book, it was still a good read. I'm liking the way the authors have put this series together. Carly and Stevie are sisters and are the two main heroines within the four books. There are two couples: Stevie (cop) and Zane (chief of police)- written by Kendra Elliot...and then Seth (cop in charge of the new drug task force) and Carly (social worker)- written by Melinda Leigh. All of them are heavily involved with the effects of this new drug and with the death of Stevie and Carly's father (who was the former chief of police) looking more and more suspicious, things are definitely getting more intense in this little town.
I'm pulling for Seth and Carly. I like them both as individuals and want them to have a future together. I'm definitely anxious to see how Melinda Leigh accomplishes that and to find out more about what's happening in this small town. The books are short, but I don't feel that they are lacking in either the suspense element or the entertainment value. I'm liking the series!
I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
