Guys and Godmothers, Book 2
When Fairy Godmother Lilly Bloom gets her latest assignment, the rules send her into a minor panic attack. She must bring two people together—using as little magic as possible.
Photographer Bruce Matthews has finally found someone who really, really gets him. He and Greta like the same things, laugh at the same jokes. There’s just one thing—he’s never actually seen her face to face. Her social media profile bears no picture.
Much as Greta Vandecall yearns to leave her small town and meet her online prince charming, secrets chain her to the past and force her to hide her face from the world. Secrets she knows would destroy the friendship she values most.
A steampunk convention seems to be the perfect way to meet face to mask. And in the excitement of the moment they connect in a very warm, real way. But cold, hard reality isn’t far behind. And if Lilly fails, this time she’ll lose her fairy godmother status. For good.
Warning: Stupid decisions, a love of steampunk, and a fairy godmother willing to do whatever it takes to bring two people together.
This is the second in this trilogy, but it's actually the last one out of the three books that I read. With that being said though, this was absolutely my favorite of the three books which feature a trio of fairy godmothers and the men that they've been assigned to find their HEA's.
This book is about Bruce. He's a professional photographer and designs romance book covers. His sister is an author and she hooked him up with her publisher where the majority of his cover design work comes from. As a result, he's a closet romance reader because he gets copies of the books that he works on. His favorite genre is steampunk and sci fi.
Greta is a closeted romance writer who writes under a pseudonym in the steampunk genre. She's horrifically scarred...more mentally than physically...from a dog attack when she was a little girl. As a result, she's always been somewhat of a recluse. Right now she lives in her parents basement.
The two characters found each other on an online message board and have been good friends...online...for over 6 months now. But Bruce is a visual person. He hates that Greta won't let him see her and he can't find a trace of a photo anywhere on any of her social media. Curiosity is driving him crazy...mainly because he wants more than an online relationship with her.
There was a lot going for this story that I loved. Mainly...the books!! These two characters are passionate about their love for books and specifically steampunk. I loved that they had that in common. It proved to be even more fun because Bruce has read and loved Greta's books without even knowing it. The steampunk con was too fun as a setting and perfect for the story. (This is a book that needed visuals to go along with it since I love the steampunk styles.)
I also REALLY loved the fairy godmother side of the story in this one which has its own set of romantic twists that made it really fun. I definitely didn't see that coming at the beginning of the book.
This has been a fun series. If you like your paranormal romance with a bit of whimsy, I definitely recommend the Guys & Godmothers series.
