Story Overview:
Faking her death was easy, living with her past is harder, but nothing is more dangerous than falling in love…

Sandra Walsh was a deadly sniper for the Sweet Briar Group, a covert agency with assassins for hire, until her last mission went horribly wrong, accidentally killing an innocent girl. Knowing she’s a danger to her team, Sandra goes off the grid, becoming a Shade—an agent declared dead but secretly hiding among the living. She intends to honor her vow never to pull another trigger or have contact with the spy world again. Until she meets Casper Grady…

Grady is a former Marine with a troubled past and a debt to pay. His life mission has gone from protecting the nation to helping local children and their families. The moment he meets Sandra, he knows there’s more to her than meets the eye, but he can’t help but be drawn to the mysterious femme fatale. And when Sandra’s past suddenly catches up to her, Grady is determined to protect her at all costs, no matter how dark and dangerous her secrets are.

As the danger increases, so does their intense attraction. But when they’re forced to choose between each other and the people they’ve sworn to protect, their growing love might not be enough to keep them together—or alive…

My Review:
This book was everything I love about romantic suspense.

The book starts with Wraith, the sniper part of the Delta Team, a private black-ops unit running a mission to shut down a human trafficking ring in Mexico. As the mission fell apart, Wraith had one last shot at taking down one of the leaders. She took it and at the last moment, a young girl moved into the path of the shot. Wraith can't get past the fact that she killed a fourteen year old girl and sets up a plan to "die" since she knows she can no longer do her job for her team because there is no quitting the teams.

Then the real story picks up several months later with Sandra (former Wraith) who now works in a huge family entertainment center owned by Casper Grady, a former Marine. Sandra has done everything she can to hide her former identity and stay hidden, but she realizes that it's time to move on. She really doesn't want to though...she's gotten attached to Grady, who has no idea what she really is. When she realizes that she's waited too long, Grady refuses to let her go...but again, he has no idea what he's getting into.

I love the push and pull between Grady and Sandra. She knows they are a bad idea, but he refuses to let her be put in danger. Even after he knows that there's no hope for them, he still can't stop his emotions and instinctual need to protect what's "his." Then there's Sandra, who couldn't stand to leave him. My heart hurts for the pain she's suffered at the loss of her team, the thought of the loss of Grady, the loss of her purpose. I can't imagine that guilt especially on top of being alone and at odds with everything else just trying to stay alive, but the author did an AMAZING job of showing her emotional turmoil.

And I liked Grady's back-story too and his whole reason for why he wants to offer kids a safe haven...they are both such fabulous characters and so hot and sexy together. That first sex scene between them...whoa, talk about sexy. I loved it!!

Everything about this book is good. I love Delta team and how they descend on Wraith when they find out she isn't dead. She's one of their own. Even though she deceived them and let them think that she died, they fully plan to help and protect her. But I will admit, Talon broke my heart. His obvious feelings for Wraith made my heart hurt, especially knowing that she never realized or returned his feelings. But showing just what a good guy he is...what he does at the barn...I love him even more. I know his story isn't next, but I'm hoping it's soon. I need this guy to have his own HEA.

I'm definitely looking forward to more of this series and from this author. A great first novel in the series. This romantic suspense loving girl highly recommends this one!

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
