Book Synopsis:
Dakota Halifax loves to be in love. In fact, as one of Las Vegas’s premier
wedding planners, she’s built a whole career around romance. Which is why
her own wedding has to be nothing short of perfect. And then her fiancĂ© jilts
her. While she’s waiting in her wedding dress. On a cruise ship already out at
sea.

Once back on dry land, Dakota tries to pour her heart into her business and
weekly wedding advice column, Get Ready to Wed. But how can the
heartbroken celebrate others’ true love? When she reconnects with her
childhood best friend, surprisingly sexy and all-grown-up casino bouncer
Brendan West, Dakota wonders if maybe she can fall back in love with being
in love.

But then her ex reappears, begging for another chance and suddenly Dakota
questions if she’ll ever understand love. Can someone once-burned and
twice-shy ever find her way down the aisle again?
My Review:
I had so much fun reading this book and there is one reason for it...Dakota. The entire book is told from her point of view and she has a normal girl point of view with the additional benefit of the fact that she's a wedding planner and spends her days dealing with life's trials.
Dakota's life is not perfect. In fact, right now her life is completely in the toilet. The book starts with her standing in her wedding dress outside of the cruise ship in Jamaica waiting for her fiance who doesn't show. As a wedding planner, this is worse than her worst nightmare. Everything about her daily job is making sure that disasters like this don't happen and to have it happen to her is less than acceptable. The rest of the book is her coming to terms with that and finding out what she really needs out of her life.
Dakota is an OCD planner and list-maker. Those things that make her a good wedding planner make her life impossible for her to live with when everything is out of control for her. In the middle of her life breakdown, her childhood friend, Brendan, moves back to Vegas. Brendan gets her in a way that no one else in her life ever does. I loved them together and just how good he was for her. Talk about someone who is keyed into another person. Brendan is that person for Dakota. But that doesn't make it all smooth sailing for the two of them. Dakota has had her trust of everything she believes in...herself, the power of love, her ability to trust other people....completely blown away and that kind of thing doesn't heal overnight.
This book was simply a good, fun, entertaining read. There were moments of humor (several of them came at the anger management meetings...I was reading those scenes aloud to my hubby because I enjoyed them so much) but there were also a couple of moments where my eyes filled with tears. Dakota has issues that go back to her childhood and Brendan does so much to fix those for her. This guy...LOVED HIM!!
But it was also really easy to connect to Dakota, too. This is a girl who is used to being on top of every aspect of her life. She color codes everything (and let me tell you, I loved the warning/threat level coding for her brides and her life...simply a perfect example of why this book is so much fun to read). I'm a list maker, although not quite as OCD as Dakota, but I could understand her and her methods for trying to get back on top of it all when it spun out of control. I loved her internal dialogue. It was humorous and snarky and she noticed all the right things about Brendan...it was fun being in her head for 300 pages.
I would definitely recommend this book for a good, fun, entertaining read. Simply perfect if you have a wedding to go to or plan this summer!
I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Author Bio:
Cindi Madsen is a USA Today Bestselling author of contemporary romance and young adult novels. She sits at her computer every chance she gets, plotting revising, and falling in love with her characters. Sometimes it makes her a crazy person. Without it, she’d be even crazier. She has way too many shoes, but can always find a reason to buy a new pretty pair, especially if they’re sparkly, colorful, or super tall. She loves music, dancing, and wishes summer lasted all year long. She lives in Colorado (where summer is most definitely NOT all year long) with her husband and three children.
