Story Overview:
When Nick O'Flaherty arrives at the scene of a double homicide to find he has a witness to the crime, he thinks it’s his lucky day. But when he realizes his witness is suffering from amnesia and can’t even remember his own name, Nick wishes he’d gone with his gut and put in for vacation time.

Then Nick’s boyfriend and former Recon teammate, Kelly Abbott, joins him in Boston, and Nick finds his hands a little too full as the case and his personal life collide. The witness he’s dubbed “JD” is being tailed by Julian Cross, a retired CIA hitman. To complicate matters further, JD forms an attachment to Nick that Nick struggles not to respond to as they search for the key to JD’s identity.

Trying to determine whether JD is friend or foe as they investigate the crime puts them on the trail of a much older mystery. When multiple attempts are made on their lives, Nick is forced to turn to old enemies and new allies to solve a centuries-old crime before he and Kelly get added to the history books.

My Review:
Nick and Kelly...I LOVE and adore them. I was so excited to see how much page time they got in the last Cut and Run novel which was immediately followed up by this book. I really enjoy these two together...a lot of that is because they are still so new together, but that doesn't mean that everything is hearts and roses between them. They may be new as a couple, but they have 15 years of friendship so they are really comfortable together. The problem for them now though is that they are trying to negotiate a relationship while Kelly lives in Colorado and Nick lives in Boston. Also, something happened to Nick on that last Sidewinder deployment that's left him on the edge. He's not quite the easy-going, calm guy he used to be before. And all of that is exacerbated in this story because he's having to work a difficult case while Kelly is in town visiting.

But it's that case that takes this story to a fun place which is so like the movie, National Treasure (a movie I loved). The story starts with a robbery at an old bookstore which takes the two...along with their new friend/suspect JD and old friend Julian Cross...on a treasure hunt through Revolutionary War Boston and the surrounding countryside. It was a fun story and I enjoyed it. I was intrigued by JD and the mystery surrounding him and enjoyed getting to see Julian Cross again. There were new details about Nick's childhood that were revealed in this book. The more I find out about this guy, the more I truly love and adore him and all that he has overcome in his life.

The great thing is that this story as well as a bit from the last Cut and Run has taken Kelly and Nick to a new place and new careers. I like where this is going for them and can't wait to see what Abigail Roux does with their story now.
