My Review:
I knew when I finished the second novella of this introductory trilogy that this was going to be a difficult and emotional book. I wasn't wrong. I don't know who my heart broke for more with these two characters...Guy or Chrissie?

Guy is so much in love with Chrissie and as the investigation into her mother's death winds down he sees her slipping further and further away. And although this alone is so freaking emotional, he has so many other issues going on. The burning hatred he feels for his father. The true mourning he's also having to go through with Chrissie's mom...she basically raised him, too.  Every where he turns there's just one more thing to seemingly knock him down emotionally.

Chrissie is a bit broken and she always has been that way. When her mother was alive, she maintained the order to keep Chrissie functioning. At 8 years old that was suddenly ripped from her when her mother disappeared completely and Chrissie has never fully regained her equilibrium. Guy is the only other person who's been able to balance her, but when he's so emotionally off-kilter in this book, she definitely loses her way.

*gah* My heart simply ached for both of them. And I'll admit, that made this a book that I LOVED. I love a good angst-riddled story and this one worked for that totally. Now I'm curious how the three novellas play into the overall series. Were the novellas just to provide back-story into the town and the main characters that will make up the town? This is what I suspect, but I can't wait to see. I've already ordered the first two print copies of the full-length books because if they are half as good as these introductory novellas have been then it's going to be a winning series for me!

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
