Story Overview:
When all hope is gone, can love still find a way?

Tucker Simon has given up on love. After a tragedy, it’s just not in the cards for him, and he wishes his family would get off his back. He’s fine—or at least he thought he was–until a family wedding forces him to address a few things, namely his date, Abby Mathews. She’s been put in the ‘friend’ category, mostly because she deserves so much more than what he can give. But the more time that he spends with her, Tucker begins to think that maybe there is a chance for love after all…

Abby Mathews has been in love with Tucker Simon since he walked into her family’s bar nearly a year ago. But he’s got baggage and heartache a plenty. His one-night-stands aren't going to lessen that no matter what he thinks. Tucker needs a friend, but Abby wants to give him more, and as they navigate their way through a weekend in Florida, their attraction can’t be ignored. Abby has to make a choice. Does she cherish their friendship and take what she can get? Or does she go after what she really wants, which is Tucker’s heart…

My Review:
Okay, right up front...I own all the books from the Barker series, but haven't read them yet. I did feel like I was missing some things by not having read those first just because a couple from that series played pretty heavily into this book, but this book was still amazing. I can tell you right now...I'm going to like this series.

This book is about Tucker and Abby. Three years ago, Tucker's life ended when his wife's plane disappeared...they still have no idea what happened. Since then, he's lived a very hollow life. He gets up, goes to work, and has lots of meaningless sex with women who know the score. But over the last year, he's become friends with Abby, the bartender at her family bar that he frequents every week. When his date to a family wedding bails on him at the last minute, Tucker has a problem. His family is worried about him and when they worry, they hover and smother him. Showing up at the wedding alone is just asking for more hands-on "help" from them and that's something he just can't handle. So he ends up taking Abby.

Abby has been in love with Tucker for months, but she knows that nothing can come from it. He's still shattered from the loss of his wife. Abby knows she's risking heartbreak if she goes with him, but she can't tell her friend no when she knows she needs him.

Family-based series...I love them and this one ROCKS! The Simon family is huge...4-5 boys (I lost track) and a girl and all of them caring and protective. My favorite! But there are also cousins that played just as heavily into this book. From Rick and Cooper, to Jack and Beau (although Beau is taken by a Barker girl), there are some wonderful characters in this book. I loved the scenes from the days surrounding the wedding...just pure fun. And Abby's family is just as large. I loved the scenes with her brother Mick in the bar.

This book all the right notes for me. I liked the backstory for Tucker. It provided a bit of suspense and drama and emotion to the story. I liked the family aspect. I loved Tucker and Abby. Together they were awesome...those scenes at the wedding were alternately sweet and tender, but some were simply sizzling. It was a great book and I can't wait for the next one, Jack. In the meantime, I have to make time to go back and read the Barker triplets series.
