Story Overview:
Brandon McKinney is a man reborn. Newly awakened to the notion of consensual power exchange and the submissive urges inside him, he begs for a second chance from the man who opened his eyes to this world: Silicon Valley superstar Jonathan Watkins. But no birth is absent pain, and Brandon's is no exception. He fears he's not strong enough to see it through.

Jonathan knows better. He's seen the iron core inside his new submissive, and the wounded heart inside him too. He means to teach Brandon to heal the one with the other. They have five months left on their contract, after all, and Jonathan has done more with less before.

It's tough to stay objective, though, when you're falling in love. Shame Brandon doesn't feel the same. He's only there for the three-million-dollar payout at contract's end--a fact that Jonathan, nursing his own wounded heart, reminds himself of each day. For even as Brandon's barriers break and his mind expands, even as he grows to love his place at Jonathan's feet, he'll never love life with a sadist--especially one who cannot escape the public eye.

"Reader discretion advised. This title contains the following sensitive themes: heavy kink."

"This title is #2 of the Power Play series."

My Review:

What a powerful couple of books. You absolutely need to read Power Play: Resistance before reading this one. You can find my review right before this one on my blog. (hint: they are both REALLY, really excellent erotic reads if you can handle HEAVY bdsm.)

The relationship between Jonathan and Brandon is a six month arrangement. The first book covered the first month of that. This one covers the other five and really delves into why Brandon has so many issues with this relationship. Brandon grew up with an abusive father that he survived for many years. As a result, the sadistic aspects of his relationship with Jonathan does really, really bad things for his psyche. But Jonathan is a sadist. He needs to inflict that pain for him to get what he needs out of the relationship. The difficult thing for Brandon is to let go of the training he learned at his father's hand and slip into the subspace he needs to achieve for submission. He also has a REALLY high pain threshold too because of those years of beatings. It makes this relationship difficult for both of them.

But those things that brought them together are still there...and that isn't just the sex. They both have similar interests in the environment and construction. I loved the scenes in the book that took place at Big Sur, just because it showcased what Brandon has the ability to do as a professional. I loved the images of him working and building.

I also really liked the scene with Damon and Nicky just because both Brandon and Jonathan learn so much through that interaction.

These two books are hardcore, but I really enjoyed reading them. I got COMPLETELY caught up in Jonathan and Brandon's story. The books are incredibly hot, but the characters are so full and interesting, I think you will like them for so much more than just the erotic aspects.

Whoa, these sound intense. I don't think they are for me as I am not a reader of erotica, but heck, I am glad you enjoy them!
