Story Overview:

There’s a dead man in Miki St. John’s vintage Pontiac GTO, and he has no idea how it got there.

After Miki survives the tragic accident that killed his best friend and the other members of their band, Sinner’s Gin, all he wants is to hide from the world in the refurbished warehouse he bought before their last tour. But when the man who sexually abused him as a boy is killed and his remains are dumped in Miki’s car, Miki fears Death isn’t done with him yet.Kane Morgan, the SFPD inspector renting space in the art co-op next door, initially suspects Miki had a hand in the man’s murder, but Kane soon realizes Miki is as much a victim as the man splattered inside the GTO. As the murderer’s body count rises, the attraction between Miki and Kane heats up. Neither man knows if they can make a relationship work, but despite Miki’s emotional damage, Kane is determined to teach him how to love and be loved — provided, of course, Kane can catch the killer before Miki becomes the murderer’s final victim.

My Review:
Miki is the sole survivor of a crash that killed his entire band who were, in essence, his family. After the fact, he's floundering. Sinner's Gin, his band, was his life, but it's nothing now. His body's broken and honestly, there's not much keeping him going anymore. He has a dog who's adopted him, but that's about it. He hasn't even been able to get up enough enthusiasm to name the dog, although he's housing and feeding it. It's that dog who brings Kane to Miki's door. The dog steals and Kane is chasing him down when he comes across the intriguing, although extremely prickly, Miki.

When I was reading this book, my heart literally broke for Miki...and that was before I found out about the horrific circumstances of his upbringing. Miki is a man that deserves something good in his life....and lucky for him, that good comes in the form of Kane and the entire Morgan clan...almost all of whom are cops set to protect Miki. I loved Kane and Miki together. Kane is this big alpha cop who simply wants to hold and protect Miki from almost the first moment they meet. I love how he simply envelopes Miki in love and protection. Seriously, everything about how Kane treats Miki just melted my heart at the sweetness of it all. And Miki is so in need of that sweetness. Because not only has he lost everything, but now someone is trying to kill him, too.

This book is full of emotional angst, but to cushion that is the huge Morgan clan. I loved them. Kane is one of eight siblings. Almost all of them, and his dad, work in some way on the police force. These huge, alpha guys are a force to be reckoned with especially when one of their own is threatened. When Kane puts his claim on Miki, that automatically makes him one of the family. I loved that and how bizarre Miki felt that all was. He's never had a family and to be thrown into this huge one is a bit overwhelming to him....but it's honestly, exactly what he needs.

I loved this book. There is a really awful guy after Miki in the midst of him trying to pick up the pieces of his lost world. It makes for an emotional read, but it provided a great few hours of escapism and gorgeous entertaining reading. There wasn't a thing about this book that I didn't like.
