Sam's life hasn't turned out the way he planned. Two years after an unwelcome divorce from his high school sweetheart, Katie, he's struggling to put the pieces of his life together and pay off a mountain of debt. At the insistence of his oldest friend, he reluctantly agrees to be set up on a 1Night Stand. Perhaps it's the push he needs to finally move on?

Divorced and preparing for an empty nest when her only son leaves for Marine Boot Camp, Katie is ready for a change. Working as a legal secretary has given her professional fulfillment, but her romantic life leaves something to be desired. Weary of facing the future alone, she decides to dip her toe back into the dating pool and perhaps find some companionship.

Forced to confront their issues and a divorce neither wanted, can Sam and Katie forget the past and reconnect?

My Review:

What an interesting 1NS story about two people who have been divorced for two years.  Sam and Kathryn got married right out of high school when she got pregnant on their prom night. For both of them, that was their first sexual experience. Neither one of them have been able to move on since their divorce. This is supposed to be both of them moving on, so imagine their surprise when Madame Eve sets them up together.

I liked this story. Like too many marriages that go wrong, both these people stopped seeing the other person and they stopped talking. There were assumptions made that hurt…both of them. I’m always amazed at the depth of story that the 1NS authors are able to fit into a very small word-count. This novella takes only about an hour or less to read, but it’s definitely not short on depth of story. You can’t help but feel for both of these characters. Yes, their marriage was unhappy at the end, but their love didn’t stop because of that. They just don’t know how to move past their difficulties.

This was a great little story about two people finding each other once again. I enjoy stories like this where love is rejuvenated. It was also extra-enjoyable because both the Hero/Heroine are around 36 years old….a bit older than you find in a lot of stories and facing real world circumstances and stresses. It’s definitely a story I recommend.

All this week, Decadent is celebrating the birthday of their 1NS imprint. I will be hostessing and reviewing 1NS books all week long, too. Join in the celebration!
