Story Overview:
P.J. and Cole were sharpshooting rivals on the same KGI team and enjoyed a spirited, uncomplicated camaraderie. Until the night they gave in to their desires and suddenly took their relationship one step further. In the aftermath of their one night stand, they’re called up on a mission that goes terribly wrong, and P.J. walks away from KGI, determined not to drag her teammates into the murky shadows she’s poised to delve into.

Six months later, Cole hasn’t given up his search for P.J., and he’s determined to bring her back home where she belongs. Bent on vengeance, P.J. is on a mission that will plunge her into a serpentine game of payback and make her question everything she’s ever believed in. Cole—and the rest of their team—refuse to let her go it alone. Even if it means sacrificing their loyalty to KGI and their very lives…

My Review:
I'll admit, I try not to read reviews before I read a book that I have no doubt I'm going to read....I don't want any spoilers to slide in. So I truly had no idea about the controversy about this book going into it. I'll admit, I can see why some people had issues with it, but for me personally, I thought it was a great book.

P.J. is, this girl is tough. But as readers, we've known that about her from the very beginning. As the only girl in a man's world, she's had to be tough and we've also been able to see the rivalry...i.e. sexual chemistry... brewing between her and Cole from the very beginning.

What I didn't see coming into this book was the incredible strength of this ENTIRE team. They are a team....a every sense of the word. When P.J. gets hurt every single one of them take it very personally and that phenomenon made this book totally work for me. With the exception of Cole, these guys are her brothers and while they know she's tough, they want to protect her. The scenes with the whole team in this book standing together in support of her...LOVE!

Then we get to Cole. Everything that happens made my heart hurt for both him and P.J., but especially Cole because there can't be worse torture for an alpha male than to not be able to protect his woman. The scenes between the two of them after she is hurt just melted my heart...he was so perfect in his reactions to sweet and so loving. I loved him!

This book is set up very differently from most in simply the way things play out, but it worked for me. Go into this book though knowing that it is seems like people love or hate it. I was on the love side, but I readily admit I read to escape so have no problem (usually) suspending disbelief about the reality of things. Honestly, if you can't do that, this probably isn't the series for you. Maya Banks pushes the limits, but I love that about her writing. It truly provides an escape for me and I'll pick up one of her KGI novels any day for an amazing, high octane, entertaining afternoon escape.
