Sassy Marisol is used to doing whatever she wants—and right now her plan is to shake up the hot detective’s hard-edged demeanor. But the fun turns to danger when a mystery stalker bent on marrying her marks her as his prey. Temporarily becoming Clay’s wife seems like a practical way to thwart the stalker. This book was provided to me by the author in return for an honest review.

STOP: If you have not read Triple Dare and plan to read it (my review book from yesterday,) DO NOT READ any further as you will see spoilers from the end of that book!!!

Story Overview:
Defying death is the ultimate dare. Defying love? Well, that’s just stupid.
Red Hot Weekend Story
Back-to-back medical degrees took Emily Knox right where she planned to be: treating patients in an alternative cancer clinic. But nothing prepared her for a cocky, cheeky Aussie who strode into her life and dared her to cure him. She told herself it was his challenge she couldn’t resist—not his daredevil charm.
Eight months later, Rob’s out of danger…and Emily’s in trouble. She’s in deep, too deep. Worse, Rob has left the clinic against doctor’s orders. There’s nothing for it but to follow him across eleven thousand miles of land and sea to give him what for—as his doctor, of course.
Rob never expected to survive the brain tumor. Nor did he expect to fall head over heels for his very proper, very English oncologist. The problem? Her Hippocratic Oath hangs between them, keeping her just out of reach. Now, with “cured” on his medical chart and his duty as best man for his best mate calling, he takes off for home to start getting his old life back.
Trouble is, while the good doctor cured his cancer, she seems to have inflicted him with something else—desire he just can’t shake.
Warning: Rob Thorton is addictive. Also, there’s scorching passion, undeniable lust, soul-shattering desire, heartbreaking angst, explosive sex and of course, Australian sarcasm. Did you really expect anything else?

My Review:
If you plan to read these books, hopefully you have heeded my advice above. There are huge spoilers here for Triple Dare, the book that precedes this one. In that book, Rob came clean with his best friend Joe that he had a terminal, inoperable form of brain cancer. This book takes place ten months after that book. He has spent the last 8 months in Italy under the care of Emily, an alternative medical oncologist and now he is in remission. As a result, he has flown to Australia to be in Joe & Anna's wedding, against his doctors advice.

Emily has been fighting her attraction to Rob for months. As his doctor, she can't get involved, but the night that she declares him in remission and takes herself off his case as his doctor, they share a single, mind-blowing, scorching kiss. As she chases him to Australia to make sure that he doesn't overdo, she continually asks herself just what exactly she is doing. She knows that she is lying to herself as to her reasons for going.

Rob, on the other hand, is lying to himself about very different things, such as the fact that his life has been forever altered by the fact that he has had brain cancer. Despite an incredible attraction to Emily, he is fighting his own demons about her as his doctor. He wants to live life to the fullest without the threat of cancer hanging continually over his head.

As you can see, this is a book dealing with some incredibly tough emotional issues. But in the midst of all that is a scorching hot book, full of sexual tension and angst. I really liked the way that Lexxie intertwined the themes so brilliantly within this book. It makes for a really full and satisfying read within what is really just a novella. It's incredibly done.

Story Overview:
Two men, one woman, one momentous dare.
Red Hot Winter story.
Serious and determined, Joseph Hudson isn’t Australia’s businessman of the year for nothing. So now he’s asking himself, how did he get lost on the side of a mountain in the Colorado Rockies—in the middle of winter—with night fast approaching? Three simple words. I dare you.
Fear isn’t in Rob Thorton’s vocabulary. Life is for the taking, and Rob uses both hands. Challenging his best mate to take an impromptu snowboarding trip to the U.S. is just the latest in a lifetime of dares. Besides, he has an ulterior motive for the trip. And a plan…
Park Ranger Anna McCarthy knows what trouble looks like, and it’s written all over the two Aussies she first encounters in the ski lodge. Instinct has her following them onto the mountain, and sure enough, they end up needing her winter survival expertise. But not even her skills can stop her body from responding to the sexy muscles she finds beneath their ski suits.
Stuck in a remote cabin until the storm passes, the temperatures rise until all bets are off. And a double dare turns into a triple threat—to their hearts.
Warning: Contains lots of scorching boy on girl on boy action, a heroine who knows what she wants and two sexy-arsed Australian heroes to really work up a sweat over. Oh, and a soul-deep love story with a revelation that may make you cry.

My Review:

Wow! On the one hand, I am kicking myself that I let this book sit in my TBR pile so long, because it is so freaking good. On the other hand, I am kicking myself for reading it now because now I have to wait another 9 days before I get Rob's book, Dare Me, which releases on January 31st (I am writing this review on the 22nd, although it won't be posted until closer to the release of Dare Me.)

Rob & Joe are best mates who also work together. Joe is CEO of the largest outdoor equipment supplier in Australia and Rob works with him. Joe is a natural workaholic, so Rob, as his best friend, has taken it upon himself to make sure that Joe takes time to have some fun. This usually happens after the phrase, "I dare you..." is uttered. The latest dare involves an impromptu trip to the US to go skiing at Wolf Creek. After being heli-dropped into their ski area, the two of them quickly become lost because they are trying out a new (and faulty) compass system for the company. Luckily, these two Australians caught the eye of Ranger Anna McCarthy the night before and she has been keeping an eye on them all day (from afar with binoculars) and quickly realizes that they are becoming lost. What ensues from there is one seriously HOT night full of fantasy-inducing menage.

For Joe, his feelings for Anna are immediately so much more than just sex. I love how close that Rob & Joe are through the story as friends, because I think that Rob realizes Joe's feelings before Joe even does. Yes, this is an erotic story. It is also a love story. But for this particular story, I feel that it is more about the power of a good friendship. Joe is brilliant and career-driven, but it is his friendship with Rob that keeps him down-to-earth and truly alive.

Throughout the entire story, you, as the reader, know that Rob has some news for Joe which Joe isn't going to like, but when it came out...OMG! Complete and total shocker. I did not see that coming and it was like a swift kick to the gut. Yes, I admit it, I bawled throughout that entire chapter of the book. To say that I cannot wait for Rob's book is putting it mildly.

This was really an incredible read. I am a sucker for snow-bound stories and this one is one of the best that I have read. I loved the heat, the chemistry, the sexual tension, and the emotion of it all. Well done, Lexxie!!

Size Matters by Stephanie Julian

Title:  Size Matters
Author: Stephanie Julian
My Rating: B+

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Series: Fringe #1
Main Characters: Carrie & Tim
Release Date: September 2010
ISBN:e-book
Publisher: Ellora's Cave

Sexual Intensity: hot

Story Overview:
Carrie Benton's got the best job in the world working as a reporter for the Weekly News Journal. Chupacabra picnicking at the Jersey Shore? Check. Aliens in the White House? Absolutely. Bigfoot stalking the forests of northern Pennsylvania? Well, okay . . . but Bigfoot is so Left Coast.

Tim Sattizahn can't believe his luck. The six-foot redhead who crashed into his forest during a snowstorm is gorgeous, funny and hot for him. Everything would be perfect except for the fact that she's looking for Bigfoot.

And, unfortunately for Tim, she found him . . .

My Review:
Vanessa, the Jeep Diva, has been reviewing a bunch of Stephanie Julian books this week  (go check out her reviews, they're really fabulous) and we got to chatting about this book yesterday. So, last night when I was in the mood for something a little bit different than the book I was reading, I pulled this one out of my Kindle TBR pile. It was a perfect change of pace. This book is just pure fun...and makes me hope that it's kind of true.

The premise is fun and entertaining (read the Story Overview above if you haven't already.) I loved the chemistry between Carrie and Tim. I adored Tim's character...his loneliness gave him an incredibly sexy vulnerable air. I liked how Carrie handled her professional conundrum. And I adored the relatives who just dropped in on Tim (who is bigfoot)...his cousin Andy who is a Yeti and Fry who is a Fairy. Really the entire book was just pure simple fun. It's really short and I would have liked it to develop their relationship just a bit more, but overall I was really happy with this one. Great for a quick, happy romantic fix with a twist to the paranormal side!

Darker After Midnight by Lara Adrian

Title:  Darker After Midnight
Author: Lara Adrian
My Rating: A

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Series: Midnight Breeds #10
Main Characters: Chase & Tavia
Release Date: January 2012
ISBN9780345530875
Publisher: Random House

Sexual Intensity: hot

Story Overview:
The climactic novel in Lara Adrian’s New York Times bestselling Midnight Breed series—and her hardcover debut—Darker After Midnight invites readers to enter a thrillingly sensual world where danger meets desire.

In the dark of night, a blood war escalates within the hidden world of the Breed. After existing in secret for many long centuries, maintaining a fragile peace with the humans who walk beside them unaware, a single act of retaliation has put the entire vampire nation at risk of discovery. It falls to the Order—a cadre of Breed warriors pledged to protect their own and humankind alike—to stop Dragos, the power-mad vampire at the center of the conflict, before his push for domination can explode into catastrophe.
At the center of the Order’s quest is Sterling Chase, once a morally rigid enforcer of Breed law, now a warrior fallen from grace, whose biggest battle is the one he wages against his own savage nature. With addiction beckoning him toward eternal darkness, Chase’s path to redemption has never seemed more out of reach. But when his eyes meet those of Tavia Fairchild, a beautiful witness who identifies him at the scene of a mission gone terribly wrong, Chase finds himself drawn to the woman—and convinced she is something much more than she seems.
Pulled into a vortex of intrigue and danger she can neither resist nor understand, Tavia is uncertain whom to trust. And while everything sane and logical warns her against getting close to Chase, she cannot deny that the handsome, deeply haunted male stirs something primal and ravenous within her. But even as she surrenders to her cravings, nothing can prepare her for the shattering truth of who—and what—she truly is.
As the Order’s enemy mobilizes for the battle of the ages, Dragos and his Minions unleashing a hell on Earth like nothing ever seen before, Chase and Tavia are thrust into the heart of the violence. With time running out and the streets running red with the blood of innocent lives, both Breed and human, together Chase and Tavia must find a way to defeat Dragos once and for all—or die trying.

My Review:
Okay, I can't say anything more about the story line, because the description above is really well-done, although I have to admit that reading that first line about this being the last book in the series, makes me want to weep. The book takes up exactly where book #9 let off and I will be honest... at the end of book #9, I WAS WEEPING. The first chapter in this book is Lucan, Gideon, and Tegan blowing up the underground compound in Boston which has been their home for over 100 years. Seriously, I think that this was the hardest thing to read in the entire book and just proves to me how brilliant Lara's writing is because I am so emotionally involved with these characters.

From there it is really Chase & Tavia's book. Not only is there the normal romance between the main characters, but there is also a lot going on mentally for both of these characters. Chase is dealing with his inner demons and lingering on the edge of becoming a Rogue or committing suicide throughout most of the book. Tavia is dealing with a betrayal of everything that she thought that she knew about herself. Apart, each of them are falling apart at the seams. But together, they draw an incredible strength from each other. This book shows the absolute beauty and power of the Breeds mating bond. Then the normal suspense line going on in the background with Dragos and his mechanisms. BTW, those mechanisms in this book turn truly vile and set up a situation from here on out that is going to be truly different for the breed.

While officially, the Breeds series is over with this book, from what I understand, Lara Adrian is not leaving this world. She is simply taking it in a different direction, and that new direction is both shocking and wonderfully intriguing. You get glimpses of it in this book with Tavia's identity and Jenna's transformation which is giving them clues about the Breedmates origination. You will never guess it...whoa!

My only hope and prayer with the future series is that we continue to get to visit with these characters whom I have fallen in love with. This entire series has simply been so good. Lara Adrian writes incredibly well-done books with exceptional characters. I have come to love them and am not ready to leave them behind yet. If you haven't picked up this series, I HIGHLY recommend it!
