Story Overview:
Anna Latham didn’t know how complicated life could be until she became a werewolf. And until she was mated to Charles Cornick, the son — and enforcer — of Bran, the leader of the North American werewolves, she didn’t know how dangerous it could be either...

Anna and Charles have just been enlisted to attend a summit to present Bran’s controversial proposition: that the wolves should finally reveal themselves to humans. But the most feared Alpha in Europe is dead set against the plan — and it seems like someone else might be too. When Anna is attacked by vampires using pack magic, the kind of power only werewolves should be able to draw on, Charles and Anna must combine their talents to hunt down whoever is behind it all — or risk losing everything...

My Review:
Love, love, LOVE this series. This book takes place just a few weeks after the end of book #1 in the series. Anna and Charles are still very much trying to learn about each other and how to make their strange new relationship work for them. BUT, things are so much more settled and in a better place than they were in much of book #1. In this book, the two have a better trust of where they stand in each other's lives and I really enjoyed that comfort between the two of them. It's certainly not to a point where it's all-encompassing yet, but it's at a good place. They trust one another enough to care.

In this book, we get to see just how much Charles isn't like other wolves. He was born a werewolf rather than being turned. As such, he has a different relationship with his inner wolf, who he calls Brother Wolf. They are two separate entities within him and they discuss things and come to Anna a lot of the time as separate beings, although they both completely adore her. He also has magic within him. He can see and speak to the spirits and has a bit of esp, which comes into play in the story for this book. The wolves are getting ready to "come out" and Bran has set up a conference with the world Alpha's to discuss it. Charles has a seriously strong feeling that Bran shouldn't attend, so Charles and Anna end up attending in his stead.

Almost the entire book takes place in Seattle with Charles and Anna interacting with the other Alphas and other magical beings within this world. It's a great book to see all the in's and out's of the way that this world works, without getting tedious or slowing down the story at all. It was really interesting. You also get to see the way the mating bond works for other couples within the book to know why Anna and Charles's mating is so special.

There is so much good about this book, but I have to admit that one of my favorite parts is getting to see Anna heal and grow. She's had such a hard time that it's hard for her to trust anything. To watch her begin to trust others and herself is just so much fun as a reader.

Love these characters. Love this series. REALLY, really LOVE it in audiobook form. Holter Graham is AMAZING. I will never be able to think about these characters without hearing his interpretation of their voices in my head. He nails them so perfectly!!
