Story Overview:
Two men want Adam Huntington. One wants to love him, the other wants to kill him.

Five years ago, Adam survived an attack by one of California’s most horrific serial killers. The experience scarred him, both inside and out. So to create a new life -- one without the world-known moniker, Adam, the Sole Survivor -- he moves to New York City, where he can be just another face in the crowd.

NYPD Detective Jake O'Malley takes the motto of “Serve and Protect” very seriously in all things, especially in matters of the heart. He’s had enough of cheating lovers and believes in monogamy, respect, and romance. His first date with Adam is a disaster. But when their paths cross ten months later, he asks for a second chance. Despite his large and physically imposing frame, Jake hopes Adam will come to trust and eventually love him.

Todd Eldin sees his muscled body as a finely honed tool, perfect for seducing and killing. When the police begin searching for the killer in a series of sexually sadistic murders, Todd successfully operates below the radar, until he spins a web to catch a more prominent prey -- Adam, the one that got away.

Has Adam finally outrun his luck? Can anyone survive the horrors of being caged, beaten and tortured for a second time? Or will Adam be able to use what he learned in California to save himself and his lover? Who will survive this deadliest of love triangles?

My Review:
Whoa....talk about a great suspense book!! Read the story overview...it really is the perfect description of the story in this book, but this book is so much deeper than that. Jake and Adam went out on a blind date ten months ago. It ended horrifically and completely humiliatingly for both men and both blamed themselves for it. They haven't seen each other since that night until Jake is called to calm a disturbance at Adam's work...a support and therapy center.

They connect again, mainly as a means to apologize for that awful evening, but then discover that they have amazing chemistry and things develop for them from there. I loved both these guys' characters. Adam was a victim, but he's worked so hard in the 4 years since his captivity so that he will never be one again. He's incredibly strong and such a positive person, although he is definitely still haunted by what happened. He works daily at the center to help others find strength in themselves. He finds it hard to trust and invest himself in a relationship though. In fact, he's resigned himself to never having a permanent relationship. On the other side is Jake. He's an NYPD detective. At heart, he is a protector. When he cares, he cares deeply and thoroughly. He's one of those guys who when he gets into a relationship is all-in.

Throughout the majority of the book, we just get to enjoy watching these wonderful guys build a relationship and begin to fall in love, although the bad guy is most definitely lurking. And *gah* this is one evil bad-guy. He's in the book from the very beginning and you get to watch as his madness builds. It's frightening and completely creepy to watch his psychosis deepen as he becomes more and more obsessed with his killing ritual.

It was a fantastic book! It's really emotional....there's a lot going on here especially with Adam's past, but I loved both Jake and Adam and loved watching their story evolve. I was worried about how the author would end the book and not give us enough with everything that went on, but the ending was just perfect. LOVE!
