My Review:
I have read some really great romantic suspense lately. This was another one that I can definitely recommend.
Dillon and Brooke have both been burned by love. Dillon was married and his wife died unexpectedly five years ago to leave him as a single parent to his tiny son. Unfortunately, their marriage wasn't all that either of them had hoped it would be. Her death just prematurely ended a relationship that was already dying.
Brooke just had her engagement fall apart when she discovered her fiance was secretly gay. She's come to live with her grandmother to start a new life. Brooke grew up spending her summers at her grandmother's house and she's always harbored a crush on next door neighbor Dillon. When he's the one to pull her out of her wrecked car the night she arrives in town, things heat up rather quickly between the two of them, but they both agree...neither one of them wants a relationship.
The wreck was caused when a woman dressed in white darted out of the fog in front of Brooke's car as she arrives in town. Brooke passes out and there's no sign of the woman, but it quickly becomes apparent that something is going on when the women in the town start to disappear. When their bodies start to show back up tied dead to the trees with their hearts removed, this small town of 1000 people quickly starts to panic. The suspense story line was pretty good on this one. I had nigglings about who the killer could be, but was never sure until about the last 15-20% of the story. Really creepy!
The romance was pretty good too. I like that Brooke didn't necessarily grow up in the town, but still knew most the players in the book. There were several side stories...Brooke and her grandmother are renovating her grandmother's house to become a B&B. Her grandmother takes care of Dillon's 6 yo while he's at work so there was lots of really sweet kid action. Dillon's grandfather is an eccentric who lives in the woods who keeps seeing/hearing suspicious things. Overall it was an entertaining read with a riveting who-dun-it.
I received a complementary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
