Story Overview:
Carter Billings:
Sandy blond hair and Hollywood good looks, Carter Billings could have any woman he wants. However, when he makes his bid for the Governor's seat in the state of California, he needs to settle down and become a family man. Eliza, the woman he secretly adores, embodies the perfect amount of spice and passion to suit his marital needs, but she’s not interested in becoming Mrs. Billings. She can't even stand to be in the same room with him.

Eliza Havens:
It’s much easier to drive Carter away than to give into desire. Matching couples is how she earns a living, but getting married isn’t an option. The secrets she carries are too dangerous to entangle anyone else. When her hidden identity and past threaten her future, she’s left with little choice. Carter is quick to offer solutions to both their problems, but saying yes could mean endangering the man she’s growing to love.

Author of New York Times Bestseller, Wife by Wednesday presents, Book Two in the Weekday Bride Series

I did not realize how suspenseful and really amazing this book was going to be from the story description and cover, but I LOVED THIS BOOK!! This is book #2 in the series and I haven't read book #1. It did not affect my enjoyment of this book at all.

The couple in this book are friends with the couple who I assume are the H/h of bk#1. Every year that couple renews their vows. This year, they are doing so down in Texas. Through a series of events Eliza and one of her friends, Gwen (who I'm assuming will be featured in bk #3) go to a local honky tonk. The hero Carter and another of the friends go to protect them. Issues arise and they end up in a fistfight. The issue, Carter is on the verge of announcing his candidacy for California governor. Eliza feels guilty that her actions ended up casting him in this bad light when he was just trying to protect her, so she stands up for him at a news conference which puts her in the spotlight. Not good for someone in the witness protection program, although no one in her circle of friends knew that fact about her.

And a whole series of events flows from there. I loved everything about Carter and Eliza. They've known each other for a couple of years through their mutual friends and they've always been like oil and water. But all that fighting is actually just repressed sexual tension. Eliza is tough. She's been on her own in the witness protection program since she was 9 years old. Her only family are the two detectives  who have always handled her case. She's learned over the years how to protect herself and when to be worried and run. But she has a good circle of friends for the first time in her life and she really doesn't want to run, so she accepts Carter's crazy proposal.

I loved how electric these two are together.  The scenes between them are sweet, sexy, and so romantic. They have a great repertoire and it makes for absolutely fabulous reading. I enjoyed the whole circle of friends, Eliza's two detectives and even the addition that Carter's cop-father add to the story. There are lots of characters to this book, but they all added some great layers to the story. There was enough suspense in this to keep my heart beating too. Some great twists at the end. I really, really enjoyed it. Now I need to go back and read book #1 and am looking forward to the release of book #3.

I received a complementary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
