My Review:
This was an interesting little book. Win has gone home to his Uncle's place after being injured in Afghanistan. He's bought himself a ranch and is adjusting to life with a prosthetic leg. As a classically trained chef and to make extra money while he's rebuilding the ranch, he works as a cook in his Uncle's bar 4 nights/week.

Evie sees herself as trapped in her life. She made a promise to her dying mother to take care of her brother Dooley. The problem...mom left the entire ranch to Dooley so he's in charge, but he's a lazy, jerk and Evie is left doing all the work. She's trying to save up money to get her own place and that's why she's waitressing tables after long, hard days on the ranch doing it all by herself.

There were things about this book I loved...#1 among those was Win. He has a slew of hard things going on...the loss of his leg, PTSD about that event and the loss of his team, rebuilding a ranch almost single-handedly. BUT he doesn't let any of that hold him down. He's determined and stubborn and moody, but such a fabulous character!

On the other side is Evie and I just had a hard time with her character. I know she made that promise to her mom, but she's basically enslaved herself to her brother and I can't accept that. She's a tough chick....except when it comes to Dooley and then she seems like she's all just bluster. I could have really loved this story if not for that fact because overall, the book is good. Win and Evie have great chemistry. The book is fun and entertaining. This one character and her major flaw just didn't do it for me...but you know, that's a personal thing with me. You may read it and absolutely love it. I hope you do...Texas ranching and a wounded vet...there are some really wonderful things about this story.

Thank you for taking the time to read and review my novella, THOSE VIOLET EYES. Reviews are great for two reasons: they lead people to or away from a story and they also show writers areas where they may need to improve. Thank you for the service you provide.

Oh, and love the Moliere quote...so true, so true.
