When unworldly student Anastasia Steele first encountered the driven and dazzling young entrepreneur Christian Grey it sparked a sensual affair that changed both of their lives irrevocably. Shocked, intrigued, and ultimately repelled by Christian’s singular erotic tastes, Ana demanded a deeper commitment. Determined to keep her, Christian agreed.

Now, Ana and Christian have it all—love, passion, intimacy, wealth, and a world of possibilities for their future. But Ana knows that loving her Fifty Shades will not be easy, and that being together will pose challenges that neither of them would anticipate. Ana must somehow learn to share Christian’s opulent lifestyle without sacrificing her own integrity, identity, or independence. And Christian must overcome his compulsion to control as he wrestles with the demons of a tormented past.

Just when it seems that their strength together will eclipse any obstacle, misfortune, malice, and fate conspire to make Ana’s deepest fears turn to reality. Alone and desperate, Ana ultimately finds herself face to face with the darkest secrets of Christian's past, and finally confronts the poisoned legacy of the man she loves.

My Review:
OMG, I love this series!!! All the books have been wonderful, but this final book...OMG! The beginning of this book starts a little slow, but the second half reads like a suspense novel. I loved that.

In this book, Ana and Christian are married. The book starts off on their honeymoon with a few flashbacks into scenes we've missed since the end of book #2. Overall, they are in a good place. They have their minor issues when Christian has an over-the-top reaction, but they've learned to talk through these for the most part. They are learning to have a truly functional healthy relationship.

Yep, then something happens, but I am not going to say anything more about this besides the fact that I have read these scenes at least 3-4 times since I finished the book. Emotional doesn't even begin to cover it... for EVERYONE!

The series....the characters in this series are so complex and the basis of the story line is really harsh stuff. Christian has some serious mental issues that are based from a really traumatic childhood that he experienced up to the age of four. Then, as a teenager, not knowing how to cope, he was taught coping skills through a Dom/sub relationship that never should have been. Honestly, he was too young for that kind of relationship. He is definitely fifty shades of fucked up and has the fifty personalities to go with it. Ana talks about him being mercurial and she is so right.

It's serious issues that this book series deals with, but in the midst of it all, E L James manages to insert humor and fun and LOVE. With the wonderfully fun and insightful emails between Ana and Christian to the internal quips and actions of Ana's inner goddess, there are moments when you can't help but to smile and giggle as you read. Then there are such beautiful, romantic, heartrending moments between the two. It just leaves you gasping for more.

I cannot even begin to fathom how E L James started to work with Christian's character. He's so complex and mentally scarred from his horrific childhood. So many times he can be really harsh, but at the same time, she manages to keep him as a character that you still love. With the fact that these books are written entirely from Ana's point of view, I am astounded with her skill in that.

On the other hand, Ana is such a strong character. In the first book, she starts out as this vulnerable, shy, inexperienced young woman, but as the books progress, she finds her inner-strength and uses that to connect to Christian. She fights for their love and truly for Christian's sanity. Together their characters are dynamic and, I've said it before...JUST RIVETING. You get caught up in their story and their love and it's just gorgeous.

These books are erotic and there is a LOT of sex, but for me, I connected to the love story and the complexity of the characters. I understand now why these books have been so incredibly popular. Just an amazing series.
