Book 2 in the DeMarco Investigations Series

My Review:

I read the first DeMarco Investigations series book last month and fell in love with this family. My love hasn't changed. This book is Nic's story. The eldest of the DeMarco children, he's a former Army Ranger and is the brawn behind the agency. Nic is controlled and serious and has been in love with Annie, his little sister's best friend, since she was eighteen and WAY too young for him. But now Annie has gone to work for the agency and she is a temptation within his very structured life and it's driving him nuts. He's working hard to keep her at a distance by being surly and argumentative.

Annie has been in love with Nic for as long as she can remember, but she made the mistake of throwing herself at him when she was nineteen. She has no plans to make another humiliating mistake like that again. Things change for both of them when Nic starts receiving threatening calls that are aimed specifically as threats towards Annie.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. Like I said I am already in love with all these characters. I love the private investigation company started by the super-spy parents and how all the kids have come into the agency. Nic and Annie were another pair of characters that I simply loved.

Annie is smart and savvy and not afraid to stand up to Nic. There was a surprise to her character with her second job that I just loved. It always seemed like maybe there was a bit more to that story, but it was never revealed. She also competes as a ball-room dancer on the side. I enjoyed the dancing scenes.

I wish that we could have delved into Nic's character a bit more. I feel like we just barely scratched the surface and the depth of his feelings. The back-story with Nino was riveting and I liked that addition to the story line, although I have to admit to some confusion at the end with Nic's actions in taking Toni (Nino's daughter) out to dinner with Annie and him. I felt that was drama which wasn't in character for him...he just doesn't strike me as the type to ever let his guard down like that.

There were a few minor editing and character issues within this book, but they weren't enough to impact my enjoyment of the book. For me the chemistry between Annie & Nic worked to carry the story over those.

I cannot wait for Jimmy's story. He's the brilliant one of the siblings...always down in his lab in the basement. I love how he always seems to be working with unstable explosives of some sort...LOL! A gorgeous, geeky nerd...YES, PLEASE!
