Story Overview:
Some days, a girl just can't catch a break. . .

. . .especially when the girl in question is Georgina Kincaid, a shape-shifting succubus who gets her energy from seducing men. First there's her relationship with gorgeous bestselling writer Seth Mortensen, which is unsatisfying on a number of levels. It's not just that they can't have sex in case Georgina inadvertently kills him (generally a turn-off for most guys). Lately, even spending time together is a challenge. Seth's obsessed with finishing his latest novel, and Georgina's under demonic orders to mentor the new (and surprisingly inept) succubus on the block.

Then there are the dreams. Someone, or something, is preying on Georgina at night, draining her energy, and supplying eerie visions of her future. Georgina seeks answers from Dante, a dream interpreter with ties to the underworld, but his flirtatious charm only leaves her more confused—especially as the situation with Seth reaches crisis point. Now Georgina faces a double challenge—rein in her out-of-control love life, and go toe-to-toe with an enemy capable of wreaking serious havoc among mankind. Otherwise, Georgina, and the entire mortal world, may never sleep easy again. .

My Review:
This is one of those books that you read when you simply need a good cry. God, this one really shredded me emotionally. In a 6 book series, especially one where I read ahead to the story overviews, I knew this book was coming, but it certainly didn't make it any easier to read. And as much as I hate a bad ending, it didn't make the book a bad book, though. In fact, this book was really good. I am just amazed at the incredible writing skill that Richelle Mead has. What did surprise me was the fact that the heart-breaking part of the story was not brought out by a bad choice by Georgina, which is how I always assumed it would be. But I am getting way ahead of myself here.

In this book, there is a host of angels camping out in Seattle looking for something mysterious. Georgina is having strange dreams which are draining her of her energy. There is another forbidden love affair for another forbidden couple that reaches out to Georgina's heart especially with the similarities between their romance and the romance that she has with Seth. There is a new guy in Georgina's life, Dante, and he shows signs of being a bad one, but he has moments of sincerity and self-reflection which are truly heart-breaking. He obviously hasn't had an easy life so Georgina feels a draw to him, but not necessarily in a romantic way....more like an empathetic heart. Also, the imp that stole Georgina's mortality is back in town and it doesn't seem like he is up to any good. AND.... Things are getting tougher for Georgina & Seth in this book. The everyday circumstances of their relationship make things difficult, but when faced with the mortality of Seth's life, things hit the fan in a big way.

It's just another holiday season in Georgina's life and I am ready to leave this book behind in a trail of tears. Such a difficult book to digest. A LOT about love in this one, which quite honestly isn't working out for much of anybody in this book. I knew it was coming and I knew that it would happen at some point in the series, but again, Richelle shocked me with her ability to write it so incredibly well. No one is the bad guy, but that doesn't stop it from being any less heart-breaking. Now, I have got to move on to the next book and hope that things get better, but I have a feeling that doesn't happen for another couple of books. Seriously, I am going to be a weeping puddle this week...
