Story Overview:

Detective Pale Rysen, an Alpha, is determined to secretly rebuild the Wolf packs from the ashes of genocide. When a killer starts picking off young females looking for sanctuary, it's his job to protect them. Forced to work with a hated enemy, he fears his cover will be blown.
Jade-Scarlet's membership in the powerful Order of the Sibile has always been controversial. A half-wolf, Jade's unstable psychic powers are a disappointment to her mercenary handlers. So when the Oracle commands her to work with Pale, Jade must prove herself...even if it means challenging the enigmatic shifter.
Yet Pale triggers more than her curiosity. He sends her into Heat, and the intense sexual attraction could mean losing control of her gifts—something she can't allow. As the number of victims rises, so does the danger. A murderous darkness wants them both dead. But even if they stop the killer, how long can they fight each other?

My Review:
What a wonderfully creative and inventive world that Dee has created here. This is book #1 in the Resurrection series. Resurrection is a mountain in California that was created as a refuge for shifters. In this world, shifters were subjected to genocide by humans and the packs have been dissolved. Pale, as an alpha, is recreating the pack-life at Resurrection. He also lives as a human working as a homicide detective. Both jobs are intersecting as he hunts for a serial killer, the Huntsman, who kills women (both human and shifters.)

Jade is a 1/2 Sibile, 1/2 wolf shifter. The Sibile's are a strange group and I would like to hear Dee's definitions of them. They are an order of women with mystical powers, but all of them have different powers. A lot of humans consider them to be witches. They all live together under very sparse conditions and are contracted out to the government for certain jobs, like looking for a serial killer for the police department. The Sibile society is very strict and unforgiving and Jade has always been considered to be an abomination because she is a half-breed and her powers are erratic.

Jade sees signatures as beacons of light and color that she can follow. Everyone's signature is its own unique ribbon of light. One of the most creative aspects of this book was simply so beautiful. When Pale finally accepts Jade as a wolf, his signature starts to wrap around her like a caress- such beautiful imagery to show his feelings that are starting to grow for her. She can also harness light into energy and physical objects as well as use her powers for healing. This job to track the Woodsman is the first  time that she's been able to leave the Sibile compound since she came there as a child.

Jade & Pale have such a complex dynamic in this book. Pale hates and mistrusts the Sibile, but Jade has just gone into heat, so he is having a really hard time maintaining his distance from her. He also has to protect her from any other wolf shifters that they come across because they find it almost impossible to resist the allure of a female wolf in heat. It's simply a matter of nature. At the same time, they are having to hunt a killer who's very signature poses a danger to Jade. Everything is working against Pale and his natural instinct to protect and shelter Jade.

It was just a really wonderful and well-written book. Jade has had to deny her wolf side her entire life- the Sibile have insisted on it. This has made her incredibly strong, but the more that she is around Pale, the more her wolf comes out. She's extremely powerful, but knows nothing about her wolf side which is frustrating for both her and Pale. He simply can't understand how she can be so ignorant about that side of her psyche and is constantly harassing her about it. As an alpha, Pale is not the most patient guy around.

They make a great team and the sexual tension is sizzling from the moment that they walk into the same room together. It makes for a really hot book. The suspense story was fabulous too. I did not see the twists and turns coming and absolutely loved how Dee kept the action and suspense going. Just an all-around great book. It's going to be a fabulous series!!
