Story Overview:
Bound by blood, addicted to danger, they'll enter the darkest—and most erotic—place of all.
A warrior trained in bullets and blades, Renata cannot be bested by any man—vampire or mortal. But her most powerful weapon is her extraordinary psychic ability—a gift both rare and deadly. Now a stranger threatens her hard-won independence—a golden-haired vampire who lures her into a realm of darkness…and pleasure beyond imagining.
A combat-loving adrenaline junkie, Nikolai dispenses his own justice to enemies of the Breed—and his latest quarry is a ruthless assassin. One woman stands in his way: the seductive, cool-as-ice bodyguard, Renata. But Renata’s powers are put to the test when a loved one, a child, is threatened and she’s forced to turn to Niko for help. As the two join forces, as desire fans the flames of a deeper hunger, Renata’s life is under siege by a man who offers the exquisite pleasure of a blood bond—and a passion that could save or doom them both forever.…

My Review:
Renata is a human Breedmate held captive by the ruthless Gen One Breed, Sergei Yakut. She has a talent that makes her a powerful weapon and Sergei has no intention of letting her or the young Mira out of his evil grasp.

Niko is in Canada to try to get Sergei's cooperation to help the Order organize against whomever is killing all the Gen One Breeds. Instead he stumbles upon corruption and an evil that he never suspected and is suddenly caught up with Renata trying to save Mira's life while helping the order against Dragos and his plot to take over the entire Breed civilization.

Mira is an oracle and from the moment Niko looks into her reflective eyes, he realizes that this mission may bring more to his life than he ever bargained for as sees himself with Renata.

As with all the Midnight Breed series, this was a great read. Niko is a great guy, even though he's a Breed. In Renata's experience, such a thing doesn't exist so she doesn't trust him at all. But she knows that he is her only hope for Mira so she takes a risk and saves his life.

Niko has always been around in the Midnight Breeds novels, but I feel like this is the first time that we've really gotten to know him. He is torn between Renata's need to save Mira and his obligation to the Order. He falls for Renata really quickly and once he does, he's all-in and willing to commit. I loved that about him. For Renata, her commitment to Niko isn't quite so complete. He's a means-to-an-end and while she like him well enough to commit to him as a mate, she doesn't commit her heart as easily. She's been hurt and used too much to trust that easily.

I enjoyed watching the progression of their love- a really great story. Now I am wondering how quickly I can get through the next 3 books in this series. This book was #5 and it introduced us to Hunter, a Gen One created entirely as a weapon for Dragos' war. Now I am dying for his story, but it doesn't come until book #9.

Must. Read. Faster.

I've heard such amazing things about this series from everyone that has read it/are reading it/read one book out of it. I actually have a book in the series waiting for me on my bookshelf...I won it in a giveaway and I really need to get around to reading it. I think that will help me decide if I really want to invest in reading the whole series. :-) Great review and I'll keep my eyes out for more. :-)
