Demons Prefer Blondes by Sidney Ayers

Title:  Demons Prefer Blondes
AuthorSidney Ayers
My Rating: C+

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Series:  #1
Main Characters: Rafe & Lucy
Release Date: June 2011
Publisher: Sourcebooks

Amazon- $6.99
Sexual Intensity: mild

Story Overview:
A Bad Day For A Demon
Rafe Deleon is a senior demon and he resents like hell his assignment to Earth to retrieve the Chest of the Damned before it falls into the wrong hands. But then he meets beautiful, intriguing succubus Lucy Gregory, and she's just unleashed a whole load of trouble...
Really Sucks For A Succubus
Lucy's chic suburban beauty salon has suddenly become the Underworld's center of mass chaos and destruction. The only good thing in a day going rapidly down the tubes is the arrival of a gorgeous demon who's adamant that he can help her...
But Lucy has quite a few deeply unpleasant-not to mention deadly and hateful-surprises ahead of her, and surely there's never been a worse time to try out a new boyfriend...

My Review:
You have to love a book with a sense of humor and this book definitely has that. Lucy owns her own beauty parlor and thinks that she's just a normal girl...albeit one who hasn't gotten laid in over 5 years. So you can imagine her surprise when a sexy demon shows up telling her that she's a succubus demon (sex demon.)

There is a wild cast of characters in this book from flaming hairdressers to chimpanzee familiars. A host of Lucy's family members show up which she obviously knows nothing about. Suddenly everything that she has known in her world has gone whack and she has to change her perceptions about everything.

Rafe has been fully aware of his place in the world, but after falling into Lucy's crazy world, his perceptions need to be re-adjusted too. He's feeling things that he's never felt before and is not too comfortable with that fact.

There is a ton of action. A ton of suspense. A boatload of twists and turns. At the top of it all is a wonderful sense of humor.

It's a fun book, but unfortunately, it didn't engage me quite as much as I hoped for it. I honestly think that was because of my mood when I read it, rather than anything lacking in the book. Overall, an entertaining read.

Any Given Sunday by Mari Carr

Title:  Any Given Sunday
AuthorMari Carr
My Rating: A+

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Series: Wild Irish #7
Main Characters: Sean, Lauren, & Chad
Release Date: January 2011
Publisher: Ellora's Cave
Links to Purchase:
Amazon- $5.94
Sexual Intensity: erotic

Story Overview:
Wild Irish, Book Seven

The child who is born on the Sabbath day, is bonny and blithe and good and gay.

Sean Collins is happy working at the family pub and sharing a house with the woman of his dreams. He and Lauren are equals in every way, including in bed, where they burn the sheets. Life is good. Even if he must hide a couple of secrets to keep it that way.

Lauren is madly in love with Sean. They share everything-almost. She can't deny sensing . . . something. A certain feeling when she, Sean and their friend Chad are all together. But she doesn't press. How can she when she's not being completely forthright herself?

Chad is feeling pretty miserable, and renting a room in Sean and Lauren's home has only made it worse. In a house filled with secrets, Chad's are doozies.

When an opportunity arises to explore their deep desires, the trio plunges into a sex-filled, emotionally charged ménage. Long-buried feelings are revealed, changing their lives irrevocably. Whether for better or worse, only Sean, Chad and Lauren can decide.

My Review:
Mari most definitely saved the best story for last. I loved this one, but I have no idea how to write this review without giving away plot points that you really need to discover yourself as you read the book.

Lauren & Sean are in a committed relationship and have been for 2 years. Chad is Sean's best friend and has been for their entire lives. All three have just moved into a house together. Chad and Lauren are both grad students finishing up their psychology degrees. After they finish with school, they plan to open a psych practice together. These three are best friends although only Sean and Lauren are in a "relationship." When a hands-on experiment is required for Chad & Lauren's human sexuality class, the dynamics begin to change and things seriously heat up.

This book is incredibly emotional. Mari wrote the entire book so well. It was riveting. These three all love each other, but as the dynamics begin to change, they have to deal with a ton of fear, trepidation, and confusion. It's heart-breaking on so many levels...I wasn't sure how a happy ending was going to work out and it if would only happen for two of them instead of all three.

Absolutely. Gorgeous. Perfect. Book.

This is the final book of the 7 book Wild Irish series and this book takes us full-circle. In book #1, Sean had a fist fight with his best friend Chad (they were 18 and in high school then.) The reason was never explained. This book takes place 6 years later and we finally find out what that fight was about...I loved that little detail!

It's no secret that I have loved this entire series and I am thrilled to say that Mari saved the best book for last. So Good!!!

The series:
1. Come Monday- Keira (A)
2. Ruby Tuesday- Teagan (A)
3. Waiting for Wednesday- Tristan (B+)
4. Sweet Thursday- Killian (A+)
5. Friday I'm in Love- Ewan (B+)
6. Saturday Night Special- Riley (C)
7. Any Given Sunday- Sean (A+)

Story Overview:
Wild Irish, Book Six

Saturday's child works hard for a living . . .

What do you get when you cross a gold-digging stripper, a down-on-her-luck hooker, an estranged husband, his knocked-up wife, a Wayne Newton lookalike taxi driver and one beleaguered Baltimore cop?

A typical night in the life of Riley Collins-Vegas style.

Riley's always been the wildest of the Collins clan, but even she bites off more than she can chew during an impromptu trip to Sin City. Once again, it's Aaron Young to the rescue. No surprise; Aaron's been watching Riley's ass forever-and he's wanted to spank it for even longer. Tracking her down, Aaron finally gets his wish-after he drags a drunken Riley to a chapel and makes it legit, of course.

To say she's shocked is putting it mildly. But Riley warms to Aaron's seduction quicker than you can say "all-you-can-eat buffet!" Who knew her mild-mannered best friend was so hot in the sack? Of course, thanks to Riley's penchant for picking up strays, the newlyweds will have to sneak in some honeymoon boom-boom whenever they can. But they'll manage . . .

My Review:
I have absolutely adored every single book in this series until this one, but you know, one out of six (so far...still need to read #7) isn't bad.

I ADORE Aaron & Riley together. She's the wild-child of the Collins family- ALWAYS in trouble! Aaron has been her best friend for 20+years. He's her BFF, her safety net, the one who constantly keeps her out of trouble. He's a straight-laced cop and he's been present throughout the 5 previous books as Riley's shadow...always staying in the background watching her antics until she needs his help getting out of whatever conundrum she's gotten herself into.

In this book, she takes off to Vegas with a friend, Trevor, who's estranged from his wife. Aaron goes after her and after a surprising relevation by Riley, he takes charge of their relationship and marries her.

Aaron looked at her dark brown eyes and felt a hope he'd never experienced stir inside him. "You said you never wanted to get married. You said it would cut into your fun time, your independence. You've sworn off the entire institution since we were three."

"Yeah," she said. "Well, I changed my mind."

Aaron considered her words for a moment, then gave in to the grin building in his chest. "Good."

I loved, LoVeD, LOVED Aaron & Riley together! Who would have guessed that Aaron had such Dom tendencies?!?'s the quiet ones that surprise you.

The scenes between the two of them were seriously smoking. I love their passion especially since it's as much a surprise to Riley as anything...she has never looked at Aaron as anything more than her best friend. I loved seeing her perspective of him change.

What I did not like about this book was the screwball hi-jinx of the crazy cast of characters in Vega. It was just too far out there for my taste. But I loved seeing Riley & Aaron getting their happy ending. That simply made the book for me!

Tempted by Megan Hart

Title:   Tempted
Author: Megan Hart
My Rating: C+

Genre: Erotic Romance
Series: -
Main Characters: James & Anne
Release Date: January 2008
ISBN: 978-0373605194
Publisher: Spice
Links to Purchase:
Amazon- $11.16
Sexual Intensity: erotic

Story Overview:
I had everything a woman could want…
My husband, James. The house on the lake.
My life. Our perfect life.
And then Alex came to visit.
The first time I saw my husband's best friend, I didn't like him. Didn't like how James changed when he was around, didn't like how his penetrating eyes followed me everywhere.
But that didn't stop me from wanting him. And, surprisingly, James didn't seem to mind.
It was meant to be fun. Something the three of us shared for those hot summer weeks Alex stayed with us. Nobody was supposed to fall in or out of love. I didn't need another man, not even one who oozed sex like honey and knew all the secrets I didn't know, the secrets my husband hadn't shared. After all, we had a perfect life.
And I loved my husband.
But I wasn't the only one.

My Review:
I need to preface this review by reiterating that I read for entertainment and escape. This book was VERY good, but I did not enjoy the experience of reading it. The book is written more like a moment-by-moment memoir rather than a fiction novel. As such, the book had a realistic edge to it that I did not enjoy and it frankly made me uncomfortable.

The heroine, Anne, is dealing with a lot...a dysfunctional family, lies between her and her husband James, feelings for her husband's best friend, as well as a lot of emotional upheaval and self-doubts. It was NOT a fun read. It was an interesting read though and it was a riveting read- kind of like watching a train wreck (the heroine's life, NOT the writing in the book)- you don't dare to look away from the horror of it all.

Like I said, this was not a book for me and I will definitely not be re-reading it, but I could see how someone else could really enjoy it. It reminds me a lot of most book club reads- it gives you a lot to think about- all with a slightly erotic twist wondering what you would have done if you had been in the heroine's shoes. Very interesting and thought-provoking...
