"This is the way the world ends - not with a bang or a whimper, but with zombies breaking down the back door."

Nineteen-year-old Remy King is on a mission to get across the wasteland left of America, and nothing will stand in her way - not violent marauders, a spoiled rock star, or an army of flesh-eating zombies.

My Review:
So far, we are 3 months into our new Chick-lits book club blog and this is our 3rd GREAT book! I cannot tell you how much I loved this book. It definitely is not something that I would have picked up myself if it hadn't been our book club selection. You don't usually imagine that a book about zombies as being this riveting, but this book pulls you in from page 1.

This book is about our world after a rogue disease has spread which creates humans into zombie-like creatures within 24-72 hours of exposure. Remy has watched everyone she loves die from the disease and now she is on a cross-country trip to try to get to her little brother, Max, who was mysteriously evacuated by the military.

She is an extremely tough girl. She's had to be to survive and you are quickly pulled into her heartbreak as you watch her learn to go on after those that she loves are dying around her. This book is so well-written.

There is a core group of 5 that you get to watch travel across the country who create their own little family unit....
1. Remy- 19 years old, tough, knows how to fight off the zombies, resourceful, her one goal is to get to 8 year old Max
2. Harlow- 13 years old who has claimed onto Remy because she believes that Remy can keep her safe
3. Lazlo- former famous 20-something rocker, totally protective of Remy
4. Blue- pre-med student, the doctor in the grow
5. Ripley- zombie eating tiger

It's a heartwarming book watching these relationships develop while at the same time horrifying to see all that has happened to the world. The suspense is awesome because you honestly have no idea what is going to be around the next corner. The ending was abrupt and totally leaves you hanging with your mouth wide-open. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series!!!

An aside: Amanda Hocking, the author of Hollowland, has just received a very lucrative publishing deal. She has had a very successful run publishing her first 9 books herself. I personally am very excited for her. This is an awesome accomplishment for this extremely talented and driven 26 year old author. Congratulations, Amanda!!!

Awesome review!

It is YA that explains why I haven't heard of it. Though it does look like it was a very good read :) I am going to have to put it on my very few YA series to check out later this year!
